Publisher's Summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon has captivated millions with her critically acclaimed Outlander novels, the inspiration for the Starz original series. From the moment Claire Randall stepped through a standing stone circle and was thrown back in time to the year 1743 - and into a world that threatens life, limb, loyalty, heart, soul, and everything else Claire has - fans have been hungry to know everything about this world and its inhabitants, particularly a Scottish soldier named Jamie Fraser.

In this beautifully written compendium of all things Outlandish, Gabaldon covers the first four novels of the main series.

Including:

  • Full synopses of Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, and Drums of Autumn
  • A complete listing of the characters (fictional and historical) in the first four novels in the series as well as family trees and genealogical notes
  • A comprehensive glossary and pronunciation guide to Gaelic terms and usage
  • The Gabaldon Theory of Time Travel, explained
  • Frequently asked questions to the author and her (sometimes surprising) answers
  • An annotated bibliography
  • Essays about medicine and magic in the 18th century, researching historical fiction, creating characters, and more
  • Professionally cast horoscopes for Jamie and Claire
  • The making of the TV series: how we got there from here and what happened next (including "My Brief Career as a TV Actor")
  • Behind-the-scenes stories from the Outlander TV series set.

For anyone who wants to spend more time with the Outlander characters and the world they inhabit, Diana Gabaldon here opens a door through the standing stones and offers a guided tour of what lies within.

Featured Article: The Best Female Narrators You Can Listen To All Day

When considering a new audiobook, one of the biggest questions listeners have is whether they’ll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable as audiobooks span at least a few hours, and sticking with one person’s voice for that period can feel like a big commitment. Luckily, there are so many excellent voice actors performing audiobooks that you might just find yourself gravitating to certain audiobooks based solely on the narrator’s strength.

A companion for those who want to understand the novels and the Author.

I have read almost all of the Outlander novels and novellas to date; the companion refreshed my memory, and gave background information that helped understand events within the books it featured.

Best of all Diana, herself, gives us a personal account of who she is, how she came to writing and how she writes, giving very good pointers for would be writers.

In this revised and updated version Diane explains her part and the making of the “Outlander - TV series”. Again helping the reader understand the process of making a book into a TV series, as well as her impression and involvement in the making

The chapters on the characters’ horoscopes, as written by a reader, seemed to drone on and on, really not interesting me. Eventually I skipped over those and went onto the next chapters.

Despite that small portion of the book, I would recommend this as a must read for those who want to get a complete picture of the series and the Author.

I do warn that it takes some time to adjust from Davina Porter’s narrating style, to Diana Gabaldon’s break neck speed, with little inflection.

Once I adjusted my processing speed to Diana and concentrated on what she was saying, not how she was saying it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Love Outlander and Diana Gabaldon

My new favourite books and writer! Davina Porter give voices to all of the characters and her soft expensive tones and talent for voices is amazing and brings all to life! All I can say: a must!

I hoped for something different I guess.

I've tried!! I've picked it up to try again several times. Nope, I can't do it. I love the books, the show, but this book is too fast and too slow, thinking why am I reading what really began to feel like filler, repeats, and pointless stuff. Maybe better suited for someone exploring becoming a writer.
