About this listen

Jess Carter only wants to finish out her senior year of high school. No friends, no boyfriends, and definitely not an insanely hot, overprotective guy who might possibly be her mate. No thanks. She only came to the tiny town of Banks, Idaho, to make sure her dad doesn't do anything too crazy. Like buy the local motel where you pay by the hour.

Dangerous stalkers and a group of students known as the Pack are the opposite of what she plans on, but that doesn't change the fact that she has zero intentions of getting involved. At all. Period. End of story. Except, the stalkers are after her; the insanely hot guy is one of the high school coaches; and the Pack...well, let's just say the name suits them.

With nowhere else to turn, Jess must rely on the Pack to protect her, but in doing so, she becomes caught up in a brewing war over territory and power. One that may cost her everything.

Contains mature themes.

Very similar to other series

Twilight, but with werewolves 🤷🏼‍♀️ oops, i mean, shifters ;) everything is painfully similar. The lack of logic made me cringe sometimes. It’s a nice story for younger adults.

A sleeping book

I liked the book. Put it as a sleeping book because it’s was a bit hard for me to immerse myself in the story.
But I assure you when « in » you will liked it.
Sadly it was not addictive enough for me to start the 2nd book but may be in the near future I will ( since it is included). 😏😘

Predictable and boring

The story should have been better but the romantic attraction took over every sentence. Not in a good way

Definitely for a YA. Not an original idea.

From the start I found this book irritating and Immediately started skipping chapters. I skipped from chapter 1 to chapter 7, all the while rolling my eyes with the over the top, juvenile writing style. the chapters were so drawn out with such hidden information that was supposed to draw me in but instead did the opposite . my only thought was “get on with it already enough with the drama”!!

Chapter 8 was so frustrating with even more cryptic conversations and secrets. more chapter skipping ensued, from chapter 8, I skipped to chapter 15, then from chapter 15 to chapter 17.

the whole gun scene in chapter 17 was so unnecessary and contained more hidden secrets or not fully revealed information.

Chapter 17 [6 hours] in, further highlighted how little information has been provided to this girl that apparently is “a breeding female”. I didn’t even feel guilty that I skipped so many chapters. Definitely a book that is better for a late teens to an early 20s audience with all the unnecessary drama and very little else.

After the very awkward conversation between the MCs about mating, I skipped to chapter 20.

Chapter 20 started to be interesting, but then the drama took over and once again I found a desire to skip chapters, or close the book altogether as it was the second last chapter in the book. But as I listened to the fighting scene in chapter 20 it hit me and I laughed. This book was like a rewrite of ‘twilight‘!!! Of course, rewritten significantly enough that you don’t immediately notice the similarities but because I skipped through the chapters, it was clear the outline is based subconsciously or consciously on the twilight series down to the suspicious but very human father. tsk tsk.

I am one of the very few people who did not get drawn into the hype of the twilight series, written or movie versions and didn’t like any of them except for the second last installment where there was a premonition of the brutal fight scene. that was the most exciting part and it only happened in the movies but other than that, I didn’t like the entire series and it’s clear to me how this book is drawn from it.

The narrators voice was made for this young female but her acting and narration was grading and even if I wanted to listen to this entire book that would’ve stopped me from doing it.

Creepy teacher, student relationship. Basic shifter story. But I'll give the second book I tease, I'm not optometrist I'll finish it.
