Publisher's Summary

"A thrilling, coming-of-age journey that will make you yearn to go on your own adventures.” (Runner's World)

Anna was never anything like those "real" runners on telly - all spindly limbs, tiny shorts, and split times - but when she read about New Zealand’s 3,000-kilometer-long Te Araroa Trail, she began to wonder...perhaps being a "real" runner was overrated. Maybe she could just run it anyway?

Travelling alone through New Zealand’s backcountry for 148 days, she scrambled through forests, along ridgelines, over mountain passes, along beaches, and across swollen rivers. Running up to 52 kilometers in a day, she slept wild most nights and was taken into the homes and hearts of the Kiwi people in between.

The Pants of Perspective is a witty, colorful, and at times painfully raw account of a journey to the edge of what a woman believes herself to be capable of. It is a coming-of-age story that will lead you on a roller-coaster ride through fear, vulnerability, courage, and failure.

For anyone who has ever dreamt of taking on a great challenge but felt too afraid to begin - this story is for you.

Like you're along for the run!

The Pants of Perspective joined me on my regular runs - providing entertainment and motivation. Anna McNuff's story of running the length of New Zealand is full of quirky stories, lovely encounters, struggles and triumphs. This was an excellent audiobook to listen to during my own runs and it felt like Anna was running alongside me chatting away about her adventure! Thanks Anna!

What an adventure Anna had!!

Anna McNuff is not only a fearless explorer but a brilliant writer AND an excellent linguist! Thank-you Anna, for the candid telling of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. Also your descriptions of all that you encountered along the trail brought me close to your experienced reality! I highly recommend this book to anyone, as it is inspiring, entertaining, educational, and quite hilarious at some points!

Like listening to a friend tell a great story

I downloaded this book for my long runs and I found that even when Anna is having a down moment, she finds a way to pick herself and ME up along with her. I really enjoyed this listen, and I will be downloading her other books as well.

An Inspiring Book for Everyone

As a non-runner, non-adventurer - it took me a minute to start on this book. Once I did, Anna's storytelling swept me into her joy and excitement of planning and executing an insane journey across New Zealand. Loved every second of the book, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is facing a challenge (of any kind) and needs some motivation to keep going - on a broken ankle and with a dislocated shoulder. Her constant reminder that success is just 20 more km down the road. Loved the final exploration of elation and contentment.
