Publisher's Summary

Christina Lauren, the instant New York Times bestselling and “reigning romance queens” (PopSugar), returns with a delicious new romance between the buttoned-up heir of a grocery chain and his free-spirited artist ex as they fake their relationship in order to receive a massive inheritance.

Anna Green thought she was marrying Liam “West” Weston for access to subsidized family housing while at UCLA. She also thought she’d signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed, and they both went on their merry ways.

Three years later, Anna is a starving artist living paycheck to paycheck while West is a Stanford professor. He may be one of four heirs to the Weston Foods conglomerate, but he has little interest in working for the heartless corporation his family built from the ground up. He is interested, however, in his one-hundred-million-dollar inheritance. There’s just one catch.

Due to an antiquated clause in his grandfather’s will, Liam won’t see a penny until he’s been happily married for five years. Just when Liam thinks he’s in the home stretch, pressure mounts from his family to see this mysterious spouse, and he has no choice but to turn to the one person he’s afraid to introduce to his one-percenter parents—his unpolished, not-so-ex-wife.

But in the presence of his family, Liam’s fears quickly shift from whether the feisty, foul-mouthed, paint-splattered Anna can play the part to whether the toxic world of wealth will corrupt someone as pure of heart as his surprisingly grounded and loyal wife. Liam will have to ask himself if the price tag on his flimsy cover story is worth losing true love that sprouted from a lie.

Editorial Review

Take me to paradise
I’ve been on a rom-com kick this year (every year?), but no matter what my listening mood, Christina Lauren is always an auto-download for me. This time, the best friend writing duo takes us to a private resort in Indonesia, where the setting serves as a luxurious backdrop to a fake-relationship plot, layered with complex family dynamics, corporate greed and artistic ambitions. The love story is, of course, swoon-worthy, but I really appreciated our heroine Anna’s journey to trusting both her own voice and talents. Patti Murin and Jon Root perform their third CLo collaboration, giving voice to Anna and Liam in a dual POV, and I’m already hoping the whole gang reunites on a sequel featuring some of the other characters. I recently got to interview the authors, and their passion reinforced both my love of them and of the genre. There is something so special about HEAs and the authors that get us there. —Katie O., Audible Editor

The characters were so perfect

The story was a mix of the show succession and the movie she’s all that! Loved this character mix and the story. Fun read.

Another slam dunk by CLo!

Another fantastic story by Christina Lauren. I loved it! Patti Murin is always a treasure. My only criticism would be with regard to the male voice narrator - I wasn’t a fan. Too robotic. Would have been a brilliant duo with Andrew Eiden/Teddy Hamilton or Zachary Webber. Overall though, super well done CLo. Already can’t wait for the next one!

Enticing.

This was a great story. Creative, clever, well written and I didn't want to stop listening to it. The people who read it did a fantastic job! With their expression, they painted a clear and enticing picture of what was actually going on. There was definitely some sexual content that I didn't care to hear, but that was fine as I could just skip those parts. All in all it was a great story and I'm glad I read it!

A fun twist on the fake marriage trope

“𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐭. 𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.”

I was excited to dive into Christina Lauren’s latest novel, with a lush tropical setting and a grumpy-sunshine couple.

Anna starts out not overly likeable - she starts out quite immature and doesn’t seem to care much about others, which I found a bit grating. Liam (also known as West) seemed so much more mature that I wasn’t sure how they were going to fit (but they do!). I loved the nods to Pretty Woman, including a best friend named Vivian and a business arrangement (that puts a twist on the fake dating trope by having the characters still be married from college). Christina Lauren’s writing is sharp and vivid; the island truly does sound like paradise. The humour comes alive in how Anna teases West’s family with funny innuendos and when she tries to not look at West naked in the shower, which had me laughing out loud. The chemistry between Anna and Liam builds well; this is partly due to the stellar voice performances on audiobook of Patti Murin and Jon Root. Liam’s father was the perfect rich-asshole antagonist, and I adored Liam’s siblings, Jake and Charlie. I would’ve loved more of them, especially interacting with both Anna and Liam. I didn’t love when Anna would use the phrase “god damn” to describe Liam’s penis… it felt cringey rather than cute.

The Paradise Problem is a story of familial relationships, allies, money, leverage, and love. It’s another solid book from Christina Lauren, and I hope we haven’t seen the last of these characters - Jake needs his happy ending too!

One of the best romances I have read this year!

This book was fun and charming. I loved both protagonists. I thought they were endearing, funny and lovable characters. Great writing, a good plot, and a happily ever after. 10 out of 10!

Good

This book was good, I had previously read the unhoneymooners so figured I would try another Christina Lauren. I would say this one was good as well, I maybe liked the other one a bit better. I would say this is probably in my top 5 books for books that contain a lot of cursing. Just excessive and unnecessary. I found the female protagonist annoying. There are lots of sex scenes so just word of warning to those listening with kids within ear shot. Not bad, not my favourite.

I liked the story, BUT…

I did not know the author and the reviews so far seemed positive, so I bought this book. Unfortunately, I found there was too much talk about body parts and graphic description of sex. I like cute love stories and I would like to keep my books PG 13. I would have appreciated to know how the book „rated“ in regards to sexual language.
