About this listen
A rescued rogue...
Scandal has rocked the city of London. Colin Eversea, a handsome, reckless unapologetic rogue is sentenced to hang for murder and, inconveniently for him, the only witness to the crime disappears. Then again, throughout history, the Everseas have always managed to cheat fate in style: Colin is snatched from the gallows by a beautiful, clever mercenary.
A captivating captor...
Cool-headed, daring Madeleine Greenway is immune to Colin's vaunted charm. Her mission is not to rescue Colin but to kidnap him, and to be paid handsomely for it. But when it becomes clear that whoever wants Colin alive wants Madeline dead, the two become uneasy allies in a deadly race for truth. Together, they'll face great danger - and a passion neither can resist.
Contains mature themes.

A beautiful writer!
I have quickly become a fan of this series and the narrator’s performance is wonderful. The author’s writing is lyrical and beautiful, smart, witty (often laugh out loud funny) and the romance and characters are real. (I do think her books are so good that her early books deserve better covers.) Julia Quinn and many Jane Austen fans should love the Pennyroyal Green series or any of Julie Anne Long’s book. I do.

Lukewarm romance
I think that if the hero’s old girlfriend had said she wanted him back, he would have gone along with that, too. A sort of strange, passive character.

Secrets
2.5
This story had a lot of interesting and unexpected twists and turns. Madeleine saves Colin from hanging at the last moment and to find out who tried to kill her, they unravel the mystery of who set Colin up for murder. Their love story was interesting, and the conclusion was satisfying. The two learn a lot about each other and themselves along the way.
There were a couple of story points that didn’t get answered for me, and I was bothered by that – wondering why the author including them in the first place. I unfortunately didn’t connect with the story the way that I would have liked to.
The narrator was pretty good. No difficulty understanding her, and the voices she did for the various characters were ok.
