About this listen

Khaavren of the House of Tiassa is a son of landless nobility, possessor of a good sword, and “tolerably well-acquainted with its use.” Along with three loyal friends, he enthusiastically seeks out danger and excitement. But in a realm renowned for repartee and betrayals, where power is as mutable as magic, a young man like Khaavren, newly come from the countryside, had best be wary. His life depends on it. And so does the future of Draegara.

A unique voice

While the novel is really wordy and dry at times, it's meant to be - having been "written" by a Dragaeren historian (and made me truly empathize with Vlad's opinions and frustrations with the race). It's quite a unique book, and has a great story with many tidbits that readers of the Taltos series will appreciate. I love every opportunity to get more of a peak into the vast world that Brust has created and I'm glad that I've begun listening to this mini-series after catching up on the Taltos books.
