Publisher's Summary

The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame...and of a struggle between good and evil that will turn church against state, and brother against brother.

A spellbinding epic tale of ambition, anarchy, and absolute power set against the sprawling medieval canvas of 12th-century England, this is Ken Follett's historical masterpiece.

Captivating!

One of the best stories I have ever read/listened. This was my second time listening to it; this time it was the abridge version. I prefer the unabridged; the details it covers add so much more to the story.

What a wonderful read to learn history!

History in school was just a learning job. This book makes everything so much more interesting and vivid and produces a desire to learn more. It was a wonderful way to learn this history.

Different read

Not for me. Was interested in the architecture but the story was very strange to me.
