About this listen

From our earliest years, we develop an attachment style that follows us through life, replaying in our daily emotional landscape, our relationships, and how we feel about ourselves. And in the wake of a traumatic event - such as a car accident, severe illness, loss of a loved one, or experience of abuse - that attachment style can deeply influence what happens next.

In The Power of Attachment, Dr. Diane Poole Heller, a pioneer in attachment theory and trauma resolution, shows how overwhelming experiences can disrupt our most important connections - with the parts of ourselves within, with the physical world around us, and with others.

The good news is that we can restore and reconnect at all levels, regardless of our past.

Here, you'll learn key insights and practices to help you restore the broken connections caused by trauma; get embodied and grounded in your body; integrate the parts of yourself that feel wounded and fragmented; emerge from grief, fear, and powerlessness to regain strength, joy, and resiliency; and reclaim access to your inner resources and spiritual nature.

An Introduction to the Different Attachment Styles

As someone who has successfully made the transition to secure attachment from a mildly anxious attachment style in younger days, I didn’t find the book all that helpful except for certain bits and pieces and some exercises. Only chapter 5 at the end was useful. I would much rather read ‘Attached’ as this book makes constant references to that one. However, I could identify the attachment styles of some key relatives while reading this book and understand the underlying reasons behind their wild, dramatic and scary , attention-seeking behaviour.
The narrator was monotonously dull and I had to work hard to pay attention. Many times, I lost interest. Also, I didn’t find any material exploring the relationship between avoidant style and mental health issues such as ASD L1 - one of the biggest flaws of this book. This book is not bad at all for newbies wanting to learn about attachment theory.
I just feel that there are better books out there on this subject, which I now want to read, without getting distracted by a boring narrative style.

Very helpful!

A very helpful and concrete content! It allowed me to really understand where my behavior of attachment came from and to relate to it in a different way. And to be aware, it is already a change.
Highly recommended.

Wonderfully helpful!

I plan to listen to this again and again. The best book I've found on the subject so far (although my experience isn't vast yet).
