Publisher's Summary

Learn the best time to do everything - from drink your coffee to have sex or go for a run - according to your body's chronotype.

Most advice centers on what to do or how to do it and ignores the when of success. But exciting new research proves there is a right time to do just about everything, based on our biology and hormones.

The Power of When presents a groundbreaking new program for getting back in sync with your natural rhythm by making minor changes to your daily routine. After you've taken Dr. Breus' comprehensive Bio-Time Quiz to figure out your chronotype (are you a Bear, Lion, Dolphin, or Wolf?), you'll find out the best time to do over 50 different activities. Featuring a foreword by Mehmet C. Oz, MD, and packed with fascinating facts, fun personality quizzes, and easy-to-follow guidelines, The Power of When is the ultimate life hack to help you achieve your goals.

Fantastic

This book was the best self help improvement book I have ever read for listened to. I am so excited about learning my chrome type and adapting to it daily since I listened to it. I ordered the hard copy about half way through so to have it to refer to. Absolutely awesome book.

I feel defrauded

This book is filled with false statements, truisms and obvious information. Not helpful at all. There is a quiz to determine your zodiac sign … I mean chronotype. Which is deeply flawed with vague questions (I.e. “how long does it take you to recover from jetlag?” Which is a terrible question because it depends on the time difference between your point of origin, your destination and the time spent at the point of origin.). There are many other examples but I’m trying to keep this short. The quiz also asks you questions regarding your preferences and when you feel more apt for activities. Then, the author proceeds to recommend a routine reflecting your answers. Each chronotype is described using statements that could be true of anyone (same as horoscopes and zodiacs - try reading them and you’ll see how they all apply to you). Circadian rythm isn’t the obscur science the author presents it as. It was discovered a while ago when they observed people in caves who didn’t have access to sunlight. They observed that people maintained a somewhat 24h cycle without any hint of day cycles from waking and setting of the sun. Some people’s inner clock was slightly shorter than 24 hours (later the ones that diverted sufficiently from 24 hours were identified as early birds) others had longer than 24h cycles (night owls). The author pretends this is obscure science (I learned this in biomedical science a while ago) and cites accessory findings that aren’t sufficient to draw the conclusions he extrapolates from them. If you do his quiz online as he recommends, the author, who brands himself as Doctor Sleep, proceeds to send you promotional emails selling you his “Dr Sleep” branded or affiliated products (pillows, glasses, ear plugs) as “the best” on the market promising better sleep. That’s why I feel defrauded and took the time to write this review (I ever rarely write reviews) : to prevent others from falling in the trap. Unfortunately, too many non fiction authors abuse these tricks, make promises their books can’t and don’t hold and it has become the norm. Tricking someone into purchasing a product that doesn’t fulfill its promise is technically fraud. If I could get a refund for the audible credit spent on this book I would ask for it. Since I can’t, I want to make sure you don’t make the same mistake I did. I really wish the author had written his book to help others rather than to make money using the title of “doctor” without being an MD to bank on our trust. I should’ve backed away when I saw the foreword was written by his “good friend” Mehmet Oz.
