About this listen

Horrifying, heartbreaking and eye-opening, these are the stories, the patients and the cases that have characterised a career spent behind bars.

The no-holds-barred memoirs of a GP who went from working at a quiet suburban practice to treating the country’s most dangerous criminals - first in young offenders’ institutions, then at the notorious Wormwood Scrubs and finally at Europe’s largest women-only prison in Europe, Bronzefield.

A very good listen!

I really enjoyed this book. A good look into some of the emotional and physical challenges of working in the British prison system. Heard about the book from an interview done with the author, Dr. Amanda Brown on the BBC Radio4 Woman’s Hour podcast.

It’s at times beautiful and challenging to hear her experiences working with both inmates/residents and prison officers.

I got through this book in two days time. Looking forward to listening to her follow up book I’ve bought!
