About this listen
Longtime defense attorney Mickey Haller is recruited to change stripes and prosecute the high-profile retrial of a brutal child murder. After 24 years in prison, convicted killer Jason Jessup has been exonerated by new DNA evidence. Haller is convinced Jessup is guilty, and he takes the case on the condition that he gets to choose his investigator, LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Together, Bosch and Haller set off on a case fraught with political and personal danger. Opposing them is Jessup, now out on bail, a defense attorney who excels at manipulating the media, and a runaway eyewitness reluctant to testify after so many years.
With the odds and the evidence against them, Bosch and Haller must nail a sadistic killer once and for all. If Bosch is sure of anything, it is that Jason Jessup plans to kill again.

Incredible
Yet another page turning book in the Lincoln Lawyer series. I have to pace myself so I am not through them all in a week. Best series of my life!

A dim ending
Connelly is a genius as usual, bringing us deep in the action, the characters are well described as usual (pleasego read the earlier amazing books he made!). However, once you understand what is going on (mid-way through the book), you can guess the ending... and it is exactly what happens, which is kind of a letdown. I was expecting a major plot twist at the end but nothing. I guess the author wanted to keep it real... Good read anyway.

excellent narration!
Excellent narration! I can't decide which of Connellys characters I like best. I really enjoy when they all cross paths in one book.

Serviceable Haller/Bosch Story
Michael Connelly delivers a well-conducted team-up between Detective Harry Bosch and lawyer Mickey Haller (one-time Defense Attorney recruited to the LA Prosecution office for this case).
Together, the revealed-to-be half-brothers (yes, they discovered that unlikely quirk of fate a book ago) team up with Haller's ex-wife to retry a convicted child killer.
The book is written capably, plotted nicely, and paced beautifully. The courtroom drama is particularly impressive.. reading almost like a transcript. 'The Reversal' is an enjoyable read/listen.
Less fortunately, the characters are stereotypically "good" or "bad" in this entry in the series - uninteresting compared to Connelly's usual exploration of flawed-but-supportable cast members (I miss Haller's borderline shady mercenary defense of drug dealers & prostitutes, for example).
As to presentation: I was again left unimpressed with reader Peter Giles. I am pleased that the sing-song reading cadence that plagued Book Two in the Mickey Haller series of books is much less evident in this recording, but his overly serious/slightly bored delivery continues. In toto, the overall performance is "average" at best.
Altogether, this 8/10-star Mystery-Thriller isn't my favorite Connelly novel. The book undeniably entertains - and this iteration merits a Credit - but it's far better suited to existing fans of Haller & Bosch.. those familiar with backgrounds and inner flaws. As a standalone, it's a little cookie-cutter and lacks character development punch.
