About this listen

This lavish visual history—featuring over 180 all-new illustrations—is a stunning introduction to House Targaryen, the iconic family at the heart of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon.

For hundreds of years, the Targaryens sat the Iron Throne of Westeros while their dragons ruled the skies. The story of the only family of dragonlords to survive Valyria’s Doom is a tale of twisty politics, alliances and betrayals, and acts both noble and craven. The Rise of the Dragon chronicles the creation and rise of Targaryen power in Westeros, covering the history first told in George R. R. Martin’s epic Fire & Blood, from Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros through to the infamous Dance of the Dragons—the bloody civil war that nearly undid Targaryen rule for good.

Packed with all-new artwork, the Targaryens—and their dragons—come vividly to life in this deluxe reference book. Perfect for fans steeped in the lore of Westeros, as well as those who first meet the Targaryens in the HBO series House of the Dragon, The Rise of the Dragon provides a must-have overview for anyone looking to learn more about the most powerful family in Westeros.

Awesome story

If you liked A song of ice and fire series you like this book, it well paced and gives a sense of the history of the house Tyargean. I am looking forward to the winds of winter. I have one thing I would like to see a different narrator I hope that when the winds of winter is really for audiobook format that Gerard Doyle could be chosen for the final 2 books of a song of ice and fire.

If you like history...

This book was OK but a waste of a credit. If you're interested in the Targaryen story, the just get Fire & Blood. It is the same story as this book but with much more detail.

Fire and Blood's summary, but cool illustrations.

If you read Fire and Blood there's absolutely nothing new. As a matter of fact this is a less detailed and summarized version of the events told in that book. I liked the illustrations in the attached PDF, but I am struggling to see the point of this book being released at all.

shorter version of fire and blood

honestly fire and blood is better, its kind of shortened but I am not sure why. Fire and blood offers better details and story intrigue, the only redeeming part is that the voice acting from GoT alumni is amazing

Very disappointing

This was a very disappointing book from George Martin. I was looking forward to the story instead it was a list of names and places.

Fire and Blood retelling

I dont know what I expected, I'm loving the narration by Harry Floyd but this sis simple a retelling of events from Fire and Blood with afew tweaks. I was naive in thinking that we would get more following Aegon III's reign and beyond. from what I've seen the physical book would be more worth it because of the new illustrations of events.

lack of new material. if you've read fire and blood don't buy this.

Don't buy, no additional information that hasn't been published in fire and blood. Just a money grab by GRR Martin.
