Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best seller and Audie nominee for Best Fantasy Novel Edward W. Robertson comes the hotly anticipated spin-off from the Cycle of Galand universe.

Young Cally is an apprentice within the most unusual order of sorcerers in the known world: the only one that forbids its members from using their powers to kill.

Despite his lowly status, Cally's chosen by the Master of the Order to join a delegation to see their allies the Lannovians. The meeting will be historic: 60 years ago, the Order's enemies attacked them with a host of demons, forcing the Order to trap the monsters inside their own citadel and seal it shut with impenetrable wards. The trick worked so well the Order hasn't been able to get it back open since.

But the Lannovians may have just discovered a way.

As the meet unfolds, the Order's day of joy turns into a massacre. Cally and a grim soldier named Rowe are the only two to make it out of the ambush alive. As they flee into the wilds, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens to destroy everything Cally holds dear - but in order to stop it, he may have to betray every one of the Order's beliefs.

Great story, audio was a little weird

A great story, especially for those familiar with Robertson's Cycle of Arawan and Cycle of Galand works. I love Tim Gerard as the narrator but it sounded like this story was spliced together from multiple sessions with his voice slightly different in each. It was a small annoyance but the reason the performance didn't get a full 5 stars from me.

excellent experience

Amazing story. I like how Cally feels powerful as the story progresses but we can see that he's not as naturally talented as Dante with the Nether.

There were some odd audio quirks where it seemed like different recordings were spliced in at times. Sometimes for one sentence before returning to normal. This may have been a download issue on my end but I don't think so.

Fantastic book with some sound editing problems.

the production quality was a bit lacking on this one,
for T.G.R sounds like he is taking into a tin can for most of the book with obvious and jaring revisions and edits.
Fantastic story though and glad to see a great series continue on.

decent, but...

I'm a big fan of the cycle series, and of Tim's narration, but this series has bits of audio spliced in so often it had me checking my headphones connection. the story is fine, but I would rate it well below the others in the series (all of which I've given 5 stars).

still worth a listen, as getting the backstory and how it'll ultimately help Dante take out the Lich should be interesting.

TGR and the story are great the sound editing isnt

Basically as the title says. TGR did a great job narrating, and the story of Cally beginning his life of sorcery is fun and compelling. The sound editing has left a bad taste in my mouth. It sounds like TGR is talking through a tube for random paragraphs throughout the book.
