About this listen
Star Wars is one of the most important cultural phenomena of the Western world. The tale of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and the fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker has become modern myth, an epic tragedy of the corruption of a young man in love into darkness, the rise of evil, and the power of good triumphing in the end. But it didn't start out that way. In this thorough account of one of cinema's most lasting works, Michael Kaminski presents the true history of how Star Wars was written, from its beginnings as a science fiction fairy tale to its development over three decades into the epic we now know, chronicling the methods, techniques, thought processes, and struggles of its creator. For this unauthorized account, he has pored through over 400 sources, from interviews to original scripts, to track how the most powerful modern epic in the world was created, expanded, and finalized into the tale an entire generation has grown up with.

Fascinating, if a bit long-winded.
If you are a fan of Star Wars, this is definitely worth a listen. There is tons of fascinating information in here that really gives you a better understanding and appreciation of the prequels and the original Trilogy.
The performance is amazing. Josh does impressions of everyone from George Lucas to Liam Neeson, and they are hilarious.
My one complaint is that the book felt like it meandered a lot. It could have cut probably 1/3rd of its length without missing much actual story. It repeated a lot of facts and themes, which is great for an academic title but a bit much for an audio book.

I THOUGHT I knew Star Wars
Wow!
Excellent purchase. This is a MUST listen for any serious Star Wars fan.
Josh Robert Thompson is **OUTSTANDING** and adds so much to this listen.
At first, I wasn't sure what to make of this especially when Josh Robert Thompson did his impression of George Lucas ...
But after a while ... I craved it!
I almost immediately re-started it after I had finished the 25 hours of listening.
Parts of it were a jaw-dropping and fist slamming .... But transitioned into full-sympathy for George Lucas.
My resentment since Episode I's release has now abaded (20 years later), but now feel very differently having heard this facet of the story behind the story.
I am grateful for the author's determination and conclusions. His sleuth work only confirms suspicions held by me over the decades, but definitely exposed me to new things with SW origins.
Criticism:
There were some passages that were repetitive, and confusing when vocalized.
Overall, this is a MUST have, and I may have to pick up the Kindle version for my library.
(Side note - Congratulations to the author, a fellow Canadian and even VFS student for those in Vancouver. Right on.!)
