About this listen

A chilling thriller brought back to life with enhanced audio, featuring new narration by Hillary Huber.

“Koontz is brilliant.” - Chicago Sun-Times

An ordinary parking lot in southern California. Christine Scavello and her six-year-old son are accosted by a strange old woman.

"I know who you are," the woman snaps at the boy. "I know what you are."

A scream, a threat - and then a grotesque act of violence. Suddenly Christine's pride and joy, her only son, is targeted by a group of religious fanatics. They've branded him the Antichrist. They want to kill him. And they are everywhere...

Good mindless summer story for the beach

This book it's exactly what you can expect from Dean Koontz. It's definitely not one of his best, but I still enjoyed it. The middle drags and the ending was a little predictable; but have I read a lot of his books. That helped me take a stab. I was still a little surprised, and definately didn't get it all right. If you're looking for an easy thriller to entertain, this does it nicely. I certainly enjoyed the performance. the readers voices captured the characters quite well.

Narrator sounded like old AI

Love the story as usual Koontz knocks it out of the park. The narration on the other hand was stiff and hard to listen to. She sounded like she was AI generated from a few years ago. It was flat and mechanically monotone for the most part. Sounded unnatural like it was read by one of the AI generated voices from Ticktok. Made for a very difficult listen because it was so annoying. Sadly, I won't listen to another narrated by this person.

if you enjoy having a good narrator, go away

I really did not enjoy the voice, like nails on a chalk board. the story is fine.

Did not enjoy

This is not the kind of work I expected from the author- Dean Knootz.
I have read or listened to all of his previous works and it was very obvious to me that someone else was the primary author of this book.
I did not get even 30 minutes of listening before I shut it down and have abandoned any effort to finish it.
I have a few more of his works downloaded to listen to and if the next book is of the same calibre I will cross him of my list of favourite authors
