About this listen

Australia, 1946: 650 brides are departing for England to meet the men they married in wartime. But instead of the luxury liner they were expecting, they find themselves aboard an aircraft carrier, alongside a thousand men.

On the sun-baked decks, old loves and past promises become distant memories, and tensions are stretched to the limit as brides and husbands change their minds. And for Frances Mackenzie, it soon becomes clear that the journey is more important than the destination....

By the last word, I'm thinking, "Who was Henry?"

Why two endings? What was the point? By the time I read the last word, I felt like I needed to start over to figure out who Henry was or had been.

I have read the trilogy and this was first stand alone and thought characters were so well fleshed out and story line so engaging … am a fan and going for my next stand alone!

This book is so good. Everything about it I loved. The story. The narration was amazing. I will listen to her any chance I get.

Keep listening!

I found it a little confusing at first, and listened to the beginning a couple times. Other than that, it is a wonderful story! You need to be able to fully pay attention though;)

The dog dies but the rest is wonderful

As stated, the dog dies. I find this helpful information so one doesn't stop reading when they get to that part. Better to know now. The rest have satisfactory if not happy endings. I won't give anything else away.

Slow paced, Endearing, True Story

Its not the most exciting story, but its heartfelt and has true origins which is cool. The female characters are well developed and their relationships are the central part of the book. The romance feels really dragged out and tedious to me, but i'm generally more into faster paced books. Overall, a solid read, lovely and it makes you think of those real women.

I have no clue what’s going on

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on. The story is confusing; for 2 reasons, it’s boring and I’m not paying close enough attention. I drift off and can’t be bothered to go back AGAIN AND AGAIN to figure out who the characters are and what she’s talking about! I’ll persist because at the very least it helps me get to sleep.
