About this listen
....embedded in the trunk of the scion of the godtree, it contains the essence of the maddest of the Ten Who Were Taken...The Dominator.
Defeated by the Lady and cast from this world, all that was left of him was a foul trace of lingering evil. But the graveyard that was once the Barrowland contains more secrets than dead. All who would possess the power of the Dominator are drawn to the spike. A foolhardy band of thieves is the first to reach it, and a rapacious and malign spirit is unleashed on an unwary world. The forces gather, sides are drawn, and mortal men can only die as the Dark Lords battle for domination.

Not quite as good as the books of the North.
While still a good book, not as enjoyable as the first three in the series.
Note: the change in narrators (versus books 1-3) took me by surprise (specifically for Raven’s character).

My Number One Favourite Novel
Although this takes place somewhere between the third and fourth novel of The Black Company series, it can easily be enjoyed as a stand alone novel. This book has been my favourite novel for over a decade, and is the first book I ever read by Glen Cook, which then sparked my immense love for this author!
The storylines branch off tastefully and merges again seamlessly. Cook has a great way of giving great recaps and crucial information without making his work feel repetitive or tedious.
The imagery is still the best I have ever come by. I can picture everything so vividly, and the fantasy and lore is spot on!
I HIGHLY recommend this book, even if you've never heard of Glen Cook or The Black Company!
The narrator was perfectly chosen and does an immaculate job at relaying this epic tale of loyalty, love, and war!

Really well done
Years ago, I stumbled upon Bleak Seasons. It seemed there were more books from the same series but, at the time, the store didn’t have them. I bought it and loved it. I eventually found the others and read them all more than once. This offshoot from the Black Company Annals was likely a gamble for Mr. Cook, I imagine, but wow was it a great move. Well done Sir! Listening to these books is a real treat. Having already read them, I really enjoy revisiting the stories while driving. The narrations are always really well done and I love the voice acting/accents. This brings a new life to the story for me and I give it full marks.

Narrator ruins the story
Honestly the narration caused me to DNF this book. I picked up a paperback and finished it that way, which was much more enjoyable. listening to the narrator pause after every sentence, switching from whispering to shouting made the experience wholly unenjoyable.
