Publisher's Summary

In a remote house in the middle of Dartmoor, six shadowy figures huddle around a table for a seance. Tension rises as the spirits spell out a chilling message: "Captain Trevelyan... dead... murder."

Is this black magic or simply a macabre joke? The only way to be certain is to locate Captain Trevelyan. Unfortunately, his home is six miles away and, with snowdrifts blocking the roads, someone will have to make the journey on foot....

It’s Agatha Christie

Great book!!I love Hugh Fraser as the narrator is wonderful as usual. The story keeps you guessing until the last moment!!

Disappointing!

This is certainly not the best novel by Agatha Christie. The absence of a central figure such as Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple downright leads to a lack of narrative organization. Indeed, the resolution of the mystery is divided among many characters who act largely independently, sharing only some information with each other.

Strangely, many protagonists appear unexpectedly, as if the author had been in a fix as how to continue the story. Worse, many readers may find in the end that a significant number have acted inconsistently.

In the audio version, excellent narration by Hugh Fraser is not enough to compensate the novel’s weakness.
