À propos de cet audio

Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever.

I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal. After hiding for years, I've been found.

A protection I've been relying on is gone. While my wolf traits are strengthening steadily, the loss also left my mind vulnerable to attack. Someone is ensnaring me in horrifying visions intended to kill. Clive, the sexy vampire Master of the City, has figured out how to pull me out, designating himself my personal bodyguard. He's grumpy about it, but that kiss is telling a different story. A change is taking place. It has to.

I'm a survivor. I'll fight fang and claw to protect myself and the ones I love. And let's face it - they have it coming.

Contains mature themes.

loved it!

I've been looking for something just as good as Charlaine Harris or Patricia Briggs, I think I might have found my new favourite. Worth a credit for sure, Strong female lead, with a past, that everyone seems to love. I liked the complex relationships, growth of the character, and just enough information about the world around her that you can visualize it without going into so much detail that all your reading is descriptors. well done! 😊

Quite enjoyed this book

I liked how there was a good story line to the entire book, not just sex and some story thrown in there to call it a book.

Loved it, but big trigger warning (& light spolier)

Trigger warning: The protagonist’s past sexual assault is a major part of this story. She also faces constant physical assault.

Loved this read! Loved the protagonist’s point of view and the way the story builds. Her trauma is handled with touching empathy among her community. And the world is fun! Definitely worth a credit!

So very frustrating...cookie cutter

Wow not even a good wow. yesterday I wrote a review about finding many fantasy or paranormal books with female leads cookie-cutter. This is again one of those books. Books where there is a female lead who doesn’t know who she is or what she’s capable of because her mother decided to shield her from it and later dies or disappears without training her or telling her about herself, her past or the dangers that they are running from, leaving her defenceless, weak and ill prepared for power-hungry people coming after her to kill her and this female lead constantly finding herself in trouble and having to rely on her protector or protectors to save her. Ugh!

This book follows that outline to a T. It’s like these authors are re-creating fairytales of damsels in distress without thinking. Elaborate fairytales, but fairytales none the less.

This book frustrated me to no end, like no end. The female lead constantly and repeatedly found herself in trouble and a lot of it was her fault. I don’t get why authors can’t see past that weakness and see that instead of just making it to the end of the series where all of a sudden the leads are powerful, that there’s a way of making her strong from the get-go with more growth as the book or series progresses. It doesn’t always have to be a situation where she’s constantly waiting for protectors to save her. I bring up the book “the chosen“, where the female lead, even with trauma as a child and not knowing who she is etc, realizes she has special skills and curiosity pushes her to figure out what she can do. Even though she found herself in trouble there were multiple times where she could either get out of it herself or she was still pivotal in getting out of the situation, it wasn’t just relying on her chosen ones or her protectors.

I’m not saying that this female lead needs to be exactly the same as the one in the chosen but give her a little bit of common sense or self preservation, there’s none! finding out that you may actually be a born wolf you would think she’d want to know what that means, finding out that your mom was a witch and you may actually also be a witch, you would think she’d want to get help with figuring out if she has powers and how to harness them to help protect herself, but nope. Instead she thinks about having a window seat and reading Jane Eyre. The author attempts to make it look like she’s strong by using words like “she doesn’t know what to feel about being “his”...she can take care of herself”. No she can’t! She’s surrounded by paranormal but instead of actively or proactively taking a step to finding out how the people that have been in her bar and her bookstore for years can help her strengthen her own powers, she just relies on them to make the decisions and protect her but she does nothing to protect herself.

Three hours into this book and I was beyond frustrated but thought, it should start getting better, she’s been nearly killed a number of times and is getting some answers, it’ll get better. Now at 6.5 hours I’m realizing that was a foolish thought. This book did not get any better, only more frustrating as the FL became more stupid. I will not be reading the rest of the book, or series, if it is one. This has turned me completely off of this author.

I can’t decide if I like or dislike the narrator, at times I thought her voice was adding to my frustration and at times I thought her voice sounded a little bit too mature for the character but then again, the female lead was frustrating enough, the narrator at least made it bearable to get to 6 1/2 hours.
