Publisher's Summary

A powerful psychological thriller from bestselling author writer Keri Beevis that you won't want to put down..

One Night.
One Secret.
One Nightmare.

When you’re a kid, you imagine monsters to have horns and fangs. That they hide under the bed or in the wardrobe. And you believe they can only come after you when it’s dark.

You don’t expect them to look like everyday people or that they may be someone you already know…

The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us.
But that was before her
Before we became known as the Hixton Five and our lives become defined by one night.

It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away.
But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen.

When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real.

Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.

A tension-packed psychological thriller that will have you gripped.

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Claire McGowan and Lisa Jewell.

Not for the faint hearted.

Too graphic in some parts and down right incestuous, but luckily very short lived part. Definitely kept me guessing to the last page. Love the twists and turns! Excellent read!

Passable 'Plus' Selection

'Hannah Cole' is an adult survivor of a harrowing series of events at the hands of a true sociopath one summer. Along with True Crime author 'Liam Quinn' and fellow members of the 'Brixton Five', she copes with revenge-driven stalking & murderous threats.
The plot - told in two timelines - is twisty-turny and intriguing, the description is very good, and Keri Beevis explores the sexual tension between Hannah and Liam brilliantly.

Less fortunately, the Romance elements sometimes overwhelm the rest of the story, convoluted relationships introduce unnecessary confusion, and Beevis telegraphs the resolution with heavyhanded attempts to obscure the stalker's identity. She certainly didn't ruin the book (it's an enjoyable read), but I was able to guess the perpetrator annoyingly easily.

As to presentation: Imogen Church turns in a most impressive, clearly interested reading performance. True, her growly interpretations of the villain during chapters from his POV are pretty groanworthy - but her otherwise unimpeachable diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing are matched with an absolutely pitch-perfect tone. Well done, Boldwood Books. I would listen to more from Ms. Church anytime.

Altogether, 'The Sleepover' merits 7.5 stars out of 10. You should absolutely download this recorded iteration if given the choice between the audiobook or text versions.. but it's appropriate that it's in the 'Plus' catalog. Spend your Credit on something else should they ask for one.

[TRIGGER WARNING: some of the depictions of child sexual abuse, grooming, incest, and (attempted) rape in the book are viscerally disturbing. Beevis isn't terribly graphic, but you should avoid consuming this book with younger listeners present]
