Story
Aram thinks he’s nothing but a misfit from a small fishing village in a dark corner of the world. As far as Aram knows, he has nothing, with hardly a possession to his name other than a desire to make friends and be accepted by those around him, which is something he’s never known. But Aram is more. Much, much more. Unknown to him, Aram bears within him a gift so old and rare that many people would kill him for it, and there are others who would twist him to use for their own sinister purposes.

Story
Mankind has lorded over the land of Illian for a thousand years, building on the ruins left by the elves, as if it were their birthright. A thousand years is a long time for an immortal race to see the truth of things, a truth that has remained unsaid for a millennium - elves are superior. They are faster, stronger, and connected to the magical realm in a way that man could never grasp. Illian should belong to them.

Dragons Riders: The last noble warriors in the realm. Only heroes can embolden the ordinary. For centuries, millennia, the Dragon Riders galvanized generation after generation, adding Riders to their ranks and birthing dragons from their eggs. But there are no more heroes. War with the Andarens is like nothing the Riders, nor the armies of Erador, have ever faced. In the place of heroes, there are only soldiers now. Fodder for the machine of war. This time of twilight is set to be the crowning hour of the dark when the light is losing its grip.

The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

All around great
Story is great, but only 4/5 because it can be lengthy at time. Could have been a bit shorter in parts.
Narrator is great. 4/5 because there are better narrators on other titles. Occasionally people with southern accents sound the same.
Overall 4/5 worth a listen.

A great story
A very good book tho it can be a bit slow at times. I enjoyed the world and factions seen so far and the backstory is pretty compelling. My favorite part are the characters, they are very well done with realistic personalities. All three main POV characters are interesting and fun to follow. They have agency, playing a role in the plot instead of just getting swept along the story making dumb choices to further the story. Getting the next book can't wait to see how the story unfolds as the author leaves many questions to be answered.

Not That Original
It’s a pretty standard “we have these epic swords that make us like gods” story.
Nothing overly original with the character development and the author telegraphs a lot of the “twists and turns”.
That being said, if you haven’t read a ton of this genre then the book will hold up for you and most likely will get you to the second entry.
The narration is perfect. Steve Brand is fantastic and he did all the tower lord books and his voice is perfect for anything fantasy related!
