About this listen
Instant New York Times Best Seller
"Writing duo and reigning romance queens Christina Lauren are back with The Soulmate Equation, their most ambitious book to date." (PopSugar)
"A sexy, science-filled, and surprising romance full of warmth and wit." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)
Chosen as a best pick by Bustle, Marie Claire, Entertainment Weekly, E! Online, PopSugar, BuzzFeed, Goodreads, Country Living, The Pioneer Woman, Woman’s World, Bookish, Bookreporter, Frolic, and more!
The New York Times best-selling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a witty and effervescent novel about what happens when two people with everything on the line are thrown together by science—or is it fate? Perfect for fans of The Rosie Project and One Plus One.
Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world. After all, her father was never around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn’t “father material” before her daughter was even born. Jess holds her loved ones close, but working constantly to stay afloat is hard...and lonely.
But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever. Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers: This Jess understands.
At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98 percent compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly’s founder, Dr. River Peña. This is one number she can’t wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr. Peña. The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate. But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get to know him and we’ll pay you. Jess - who is barely making ends meet—is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River. As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the "Diamond" pairing that could launch GeneticAlly’s valuation sky-high, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist - and the science behind a soulmate—than she thought.
"Laugh-out-loud, sweet, charming, and humorous" (Library Journal, starred review), The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated.

Great Book, Subpar Narrator
I loved the story, and tbh the narrator isn’t bad per se, but my main issue is that I could barely differentiate between when Jess was talking and when it was her inner monologue. Also, all the female characters literally sounded the same. Even Juno only had the sliiiightest difference in tone from Jess. It made it difficult to keep track of what exactly was going on and pulled me out of the story.

My fav Christina Lauren book
This is my favourite Christina Lauren book. I've read it a few times and love listening to the audiobook. Patti Murrin has the perfect voice and sounds just as I imagined Jess would sound like.
The ebook version I have doesn't include the epilogue so I was pleasantly surprised to have it included here.

Intriguing concept, semi-believable denouement
The narration is stellar and character development palpable. I enjoyed it overall. Sexy, with appropriately slow-developing physicality in a modern romance.

Author + Narrator = A Great Read
This is my first Christina Lauren book and the premise of the story intrigued me not to mention being read by one of my favourite narrators ie. Patti Murin. I see there are more C.L. books narrated by Patti Murin to which I will be listening.
The story is an interesting one with well-done interaction(s) between characters. Patti Murin has an excellent range of voices for the numerous characters and I was never unsure who was speaking. (I recommend Jodi Picoult's "The Book of Two Ways" narrated by Patti Murin too).
This story seems at first to be quite light but it is well thought out and realistic with more than one or two themes. I love the banter between the 2 girlfriends! Also, I like/love a story with just the right amount of description that moves the story along.
Great flow!

Soap narrator but great story
The story was very romantic. The characters were developed enough for a book of this size (I liked Fizzy especially). I also related very well to the main character, since I’m a single mom turning 30, and have been studying statistics, which was a nice bonus :)
I was expecting more steamyness from the intimate scenes, but they were on par with romcom style scenes you see in movies.
The narrator was pretty dull regarding voice (character) changes. All females sound the same and at the beginning of the book, it took a while (2-3 chapters) to really get into what she was saying. Maybe I got used to her, but it felt like she got better as the book progressed. Overall, not a reason to skip this book if you enjoy romance.
Also, not as sciency as I would have expected considering I found this book from a STEMinist reading list.
Overall, I recommend :) the romance and storyline are nice.
