À propos de cet audio
The Gage was an artist, once, and a lover. To avenge his murdered beloved, he allowed a sorcerer to sheathe his body in mirrored bronze. His vengeance is complete now; the sorcerer has long since perished. But the Gage endures.
The Dead Man had a purpose once as well: he was raised to be the protector of a Caliph. The Caliph died; the Dead Man did not. Now the Dead Man and the Gage have become companions of the sword, itinerant mercenaries. They have come east and south, through the passes of the Steles of the Sky, bearing a message to the besieged young queen of one of the Lotus Kingdoms. There, they will discover magic, mystery, betrayal, love - and, perhaps, finally, a purpose.
©2017 Sarah Wishnevsky Lynch (P)2017 Recorded BooksUnfortunately, I appreciated her concept of the "Lotus Kingdoms" but found myself frequently bored. There are bursts of action in the book but loooong discussions of philosophies & motivations and stretches where characters do little more than explore inconsequential towns & villages. I far-too-often lost interest, stopped paying attention, and found myself lost.
As to presentation: Recorded Books Inc. wisely enlist two readers to read text delivered from the Point-Of-View of two main characters: one male & one female. Both Rendah Haywood and Firdous Bamji deliver more than creditable narration - backed up by exemplary technical support (although the female performer reads somewhat breathlessly). Altogether, this is an imperfect but high-quality listening product.
In toto, I rate 'The Stone In The Skull' 4.5 stars out of 10. Bear's writing style is a bit too artsy for me and her plot exposition is a little bit too plodding.
Still, with all of the matrix-construction out of the way, the story might improve in further books in the series. The book is "included with your subscription" and hence low-risk. Who knows? If her fantasy conception captivates you, you wouldn't be crazy to continue.. but I personally can't recommend investing a Credit on this book if it leaves the 'Plus' catalog.
Capable Worldbuilding. Annoying Pacing.
