About this listen
A shocking double-murder scene greets Detective Inspector Philip Brennan when he is called to a flat in Colchester. Two women are viciously cut open and laying spread-eagled, one tied to the bed, one on the floor. The woman on the bed has had her stomach cut into and her unborn child is missing. But this is the third time Phil and his team has seen such an atrocity. Two other pregnant women have been killed in this way and their babies taken from them. No one can imagine what sort of person would want to commit such horrible crimes. When psychologist Marina Esposito is brought in, Phil has to put aside his feelings about their shared past and get on with the job. But can they find the killer before another woman is targeted?

Great Story
This was a very thrilling book. The narration was a bit weird. Probably the man voice. But he got the story across.
Very good suspenseful story. I enjoyed this book.

Acceptable Crime Thriller
This British Police Procedural offering from Tania Carver is written well, features realistic characters with fascinating relationships, and follows a sinuous plot full of surprising twists & turns. Essex PD Detective Inspector Phillip Brennan and contracted Psychologist Marina Esposito work to solve the successive murders of pregnant women for their fetuses.. in a bizarre scenario straight out of the headlines.
Unfortunately, her imagining involves criminal motivations so implausible that it's hard to take the novel seriously. In addition, the maternal musings, sexual drives, and love triangles among the perpetrators, suspects, and investigators are interesting.. but feel forced.
Narrator Mark Meadows compounds the deficiencies with an over-the-top performance. His diction, timbre, and cadence are top notch (he's clearly a professional) and his dedication to the project is admirable.. but his tone is "your-life-depends-on-this" serious, he reads too slowly, and his voice-acting is overly-dramatic. Meadows's reading is passable at best.
In fact, everything about this 7/10 star audiobook is "passable". I don't regret investing the time listening to the recording - it was a pleasant way to spend a couple of snowy afternoons - but getting it for free as part of the 'Plus' initiative was appropriate. I can recommend the book.. but if they ask for a Credit, you can definitely find better options.

A psychological thriller.
Enjoyed the book thoroughly. Narrator was excellent kept the readers engaged. Change of voices and tones made it even better.
Couldn’t put it down until finished.
Very glad I included this on my library.

addictive!!!! very disturbing, which I love.
I would have listened to it in one go, if I didn't work or sleep lol. very disturbing. I do wish the characters were read by a few different people as, before you truly get to know who is who, it can be tricky to know which person the narrative is about, but that is a trivial critique. loved this!!! highly recommended 👍👍

One of my favs!
I loved everything about this audio. The reader did perfectly, the storyline was engaging and hard to stop, even disturbing some parts but wow so well written and just when you think you’ve figured it all out another twist! A must listen!!

Took a long time to finish
So , at first I read the little blurb , and thought it would be very interesting since I love physiological thrillers …. But it was taking a long time to get into the book , but I gave it time , knowing that sometimes , it can take a while and a great book comes around ….. but this only had a few moments where I couldn’t stop and it was near the ending at the plot twist , although I didn’t foresee the outcome at the beginning , I was however able to figure it out before everything was revealed … also , the narrator did great , until he did the protagonists voice , (& sometimes when doing the females voice ) , it was very annoying and made me want to get the book over and done with

Disturbing story. Solid performance
Very disturbing story. Proceed with caution. Keeps your attention and the performance is solid but tread cautiously. It was engaging to keep me listening but tough to listen to content wise
