About this listen

Probably the most shocking of the Brontës' novels, this novel had an instant and phenomenal success and is widely considered to be one of the first sustained feminist novels. A mysterious widow, Mrs. Helen Graham, arrives at Wildfell Hall, a nearby old mansion. A source of curiosity for the small community, the reticent Helen and her young son Arthur are slowly drawn into the social circles of the village.

Narrator hard to get behind

Would have been better if there was a male narrator for the Mr. Markham perspectives. Or at least a change in voice. Couldn't get into it until the Mrs. Huntington narrative began.

The strength women have

The never ending exhaustion of men being able to do whatever they want and ultimately the woman has to put up with it. :p but she didn’t do that was refreshing. She’s like Dickens but writes about the inequalities and abuse behind closed doors. Great exposure. Worth the read.

However (I’ve never had this happen before) the voice of the reader was so soft and hard to hear I had my volume cranked and it didn’t seem to matter how loud. I’ve had no issues with any other book thus far so I’m unsure it’s just her voice or the audio.
