Publisher's Summary

Fleeing a disastrous marriage, Helen Huntingdon retreats to the desolate mansion, Wildfell Hall, with her son, Arthur. There, she makes her living as a painter. Finding it difficult to avoid her neighbors, she is soon an object of speculation and gossip. Brontë portrays Helen's eloquent struggle for independence at a time when society defined a married woman as her husband's property.

Lovely

Beautifully narrated masterpiece. I have always enjoyed the Brontë sisters. And the story was beautifully told.

No complaints, Enjoyed the Narration

personally, I felt it contained more feminist messages than Jane Eyre. It is a shame that Anne Bronte is not as esteemed as her sisters.

phenomenal

I'm so incredibly impressed by this novel. In my opinion the best of the Bronte sister novels. Excellent narration, just superb.

Could it be more perfect?

Obviously The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, but I’m actually referring to the narration! Absolutely marvellous!

Beautiful story and narration.

So glad to have finally taken the time for this wonderful story. Bronte's maturity and humour belies her young years.

Some opinions take longer to change than others

I understand why this novel caused such a scandal. I looks like powerful men have not changed much over the last few hundred years. I is still a very real to a lot of men that just because they love a woman it is unthinkable that the feeling is not returned.

oldie but goodie

If you can ignore the melodrama, typical of the era, there are some SERIOUSLY gold nuggets here. I loved it.

Abridged - I would have liked to know

I followed along in the book and was disappointed to discover that the audiobook is strangely abridged, skipping over entire paragraphs and pages at random intervals for no apparent reason. I wish the description had noted that this is not unabridged. I feel like there is an assumption that a book is unabridged unless stated otherwise.
