As Alice is getting to know her neighbors, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.
Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbors are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem…

Story
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped.

Samantha Frayn doesn’t know why Peter Bridges picks her - a nobody with bitten fingernails and a troubled childhood behind her - but she falls quickly. He’s older, charming, likes fine wine and French films, and his beautiful home has real art on its walls. Peter transforms Samantha’s life in an instant. He sees the better version of herself - the one she’s always wanted to be. It’s only normal that there’s a little friction, when she moves in, over domestic matters like where things are kept, or the proper times to eat, sleep, and shower.

So disappointing.....
Have really enjoyed her other books but very disappointed by this one. The narrators were very good but were likely as bored by the story as I was. It was like listening to paint dry. Pace of the story was so slow with lots of filler and very little happening until the very end.

Not Horrible
It was relatively entertaining. There were way too many red herrings. I figured it out quite early on, but, then more red herrings! It wasn’t badly written, just not overly clever. Meh…

Love a good mystery...
This was a great mystery that kept me guessing until the end. The performance was delightful. However, the story did remind me of a tv series where each new part repeats some of the last part so no one missies anything, in that sense I found it a bit repetitious at times.

Bland and boring
What ever happened to the good thriller? I usually enjoy the author and was so excited to buy this new release. It read like that new generation of what I call harlequin thrillers. Those quick fluffy reads that are so generic only the names are changed. The phrasing was so repetitive. The characters were not fleshed out at all and the protagonist was unlikable and uninteresting.
I am wholly disappointed and almost asked for a refund but didn't because my last purchase also was a bust and I did get refunded for that.

Not Remotely Compelling
A good mystery should hook you with well developed characters, an evocative setting and a compelling story. This book has none of these elements.
Most of the female characters are uninspired and juvenile, more like a nasty posse at a boarding school than a group of working mothers. (But then no one seems to work in this neighborhood.) The female lead is conveniently portrayed as dim-witted even though she’s supposed to be a translator of books - all to serve a weak and implausible plot that is so silly, it’s almost an insult to the reader.
I was really disappointed. The Therapist reads more like a tedious domestic drama than intelligent mystery.
