Story
Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

Publisher's Summary
Forbes #1 Career Book to Read in 2018
The National Best Seller
The larger-than-life journey of an 18-year-old college freshman who set out from his dorm room to track down Bill Gates, Lady Gaga, and dozens more of the world’s most successful people to uncover how they broke through and launched their careers.
The Third Door takes listeners on an unprecedented adventure—from hacking Warren Buffett’s shareholders meeting to chasing Larry King through a grocery store to celebrating in a nightclub with Lady Gaga—as Alex Banayan travels from icon to icon, decoding their success. After remarkable one-on-one interviews with Bill Gates, Maya Angelou, Steve Wozniak, Jane Goodall, Larry King, Jessica Alba, Pitbull, Tim Ferriss, Quincy Jones, and many more, Alex discovered the one key they have in common: they all took the Third Door.
Life, business, success...it’s just like a nightclub. There are always three ways in. There’s the First Door: the main entrance, where 99 percent of people wait in line, hoping to get in. The Second Door: the VIP entrance, where the billionaires and celebrities slip through. But what no one tells you is that there is always, always… the Third Door. It’s the entrance where you have to jump out of line, run down the alley, bang on the door 100 times, climb over the dumpster, crack open the window, sneak through the kitchen—there’s always a way in. Whether it’s how Bill Gates sold his first piece of software or how Steven Spielberg became the youngest studio director in Hollywood history, they all took the Third Door.
What the critics say
“Exhilarating and empowering... If you care about your success, you have to read The Third Door.” (Tony Robbins, entrepreneur, New York Times best-selling author, philanthropist, and the nation’s number one life and business strategist)
“From redefining success with Steve Wozniak to staring death in the eyes with Jessica Alba, this book is packed with adventure, drama, and remarkable lessons the whole way through. Whether you‘re an executive or a recent college graduate, you’ll find inspiration and wisdom in The Third Door.” (Arianna Huffington, founder of The Huffington Post and New York Times best-selling author of Thrive)
"The Third Door is at once a spirited coming-of-age story and a hard-headed examination of what it takes to succeed at the highest levels. Alex Banayan has cracked the code of the world’s most successful people and shown he will soon join their ranks.” (Daniel H. Pink, New York Times best-selling author of When, Drive, and A Whole New Mind)

The Best Book I’ve Listened Too this Year
I loved this book more every chapter that I listened to. So much, that for once in my life, I’m actually writing a book review. It lifted me up and exhilarated me along Alex’s journey with his triumph’s, made me cringe with his emails, and brought me to tears with his beautiful and painful moments. For the first time, I feel like I’ve read something that was speaking the language of my generation and answering the questions I didn’t even know I was asking. Thank you Alex! Thank you for opening my mind to possibility and the Third Door.
P.S. Thank you for narrating your own book, italways impacts so much deeper when the author reads their own book and you can hear the emotion as the book is read the way it was written.

A little lacking in content
Easy to listen to, full of stories, but Alex barely had any interviews with the successful to speak of. and his ability to learn from them, lacking interview skills left those interviews wanting

Inspiring book from an unexpected story
Very interesting, and at times inspiring. Books like these make me question if I should be doing more to pursue my dreams. Alex showed us that it doesn’t matter how old you are, all that matters is drive, hard work and persistence. #Audible1

Wow, this was a ride!
If you’re interested in how others overcome obstacles and took the third door, read on.
If you’re interested in how some of our generations greats started and took the third door, read on.
If you’re interested in how Alex went from staring at a dorm room ceiling to hacking the price is right, and subsequently interviewing Warren Buffet in front of 30,000 people, sitting down with Bill Gates, discussing life and death with Jessica Alba, reigniting Lady GaGa’s spark, having breakfast with Larry King on the regular, and ambushing Tim Ferris in the bathroom... read on.
In conclusion of experiencing the audio book I formed one quick opinion to you, the interested individual considering this book.
You need to either buy the physical book or the audio book, then when you’ve finished either one, buy the opposite!
The journey Alex embarked on is remarkable and the experience the reader is taken on, is so well written, paced, and outlined, that it feels like you were a fly on the wall in every page.
To hear the audio version narrated by Alex gives the ENTIRE book a completely different narrative! As Alex reads through the pages his voice pivots and fluctuates as you can hear him reliving the moments and conversations captured on paper. This audio book is an experience in and of its self and is so much more than a book. An emotional journey of his mission to interviewing some of our generations greatest minds, whilst over coming immense obstacles from no financial resources, to cultural differences, gender biases, and so much more!
I promise you, to experience the audio version AND have the physical copy is to fully equip you with connecting to every part of this book and what makes it great!
But don’t just let me rant, go buy any version of this book, and you’ll understand exactly what I mean.
The third door awaits!

Inspiring story! Reminded me to never give up.
I love the fact that Alex narrates the book himself. The way the story comes across is authentic, which is what's needed in the telling of such a personal journey. The book helped me reconnect with a younger version of myself who wasn't afraid to keep knocking on doors until the third door opened. It's a skill that somewhere along the way I had forgotten, and where the "flinch" took over more and more. I've been able to reconnect with this side of myself again little by little. Alex's telling of his adventures keeps you hooked, especially the story of The Price is Right. Well worth the listen!
