About this listen
After the execution of her father, the young and beautiful Lady Asano is in grave danger from the powerful Lord Kira. In order to save herself Asano must find Oishi, the leader of the fighting men of her clan. She believes he is 300 miles to the southwest in the imperial city of Kyoto. Disguising her loveliness in the humble garments of a traveling priest, and calling herself Cat, Lady Asano travels the fabled Tokaido Road. Her only tools are her quick wits, her samurai training, and her deadly, six-foot-long naginata. And she will need them all, for a ronin has been hired to pursue her, a mysterious man who will play a role in Cat's drama that neither could have ever imagined.

Take a journey along The Tokaido Road with Kat and Kisune
I’ve read this in book form several times, and it is a favourite book of mine. I was intrigued to try listening to this as an audiobook, and all in all, I was not disappointed. The narration is well read, and once I got used to the characters’s voices, I settled in for an enjoyable time. The chapters are short enough so that each one can be listened to at one sitting without being overwhelmed. I wonder if the author had an idea that this story would be read aloud.
The characters are well defined, well rounded, and set against a journey along the Tokaido Road from Edo to Kyoto, and back again. I’m sure I will listen to this again.

Best book ever!
Love this book! I’ve read it about 5 times and this is my first time listening to it! I’ve also been privileged to go to the gravesite in Tokyo twice in my lifetime. Such an amazing story based on true events.

Entertaining story, awkward narration!
A visually descriptive, immersive drama set in Feudal Japan that's based loosely off the true story of the 47 rōnin. I enjoy the novel itself but the character accents used in the narration are cliche and frankly racist, making for and uncomfortable listen at times. I hope they rerecord it because it is a great read!
