About this listen
At the close of the 24th century, a series of revolutions has caused the galaxy to descend into chaos. With the Galactic Union Army stretched thin, mercenary units have arisen for those who have the need - and the means - to hire them.
Kay, the alien member of the Cutter Force Initiative, has returned to her brutal home world of Vast on a mission of mercy. Before she joined the merc team, she was a great healer. And now her skills are sorely needed. Hundreds of Vastalimi - including her blood-kin - are mysteriously dying. But is the plague a work of nature? Or is it a bioengineered virus, purposefully unleashed? Kay and Doc Wink will have to find out the hard way.
With the Cutter Force light-years away, the two find the odds against them - and on a planet like Vast, where violence abounds and life is cheap, they may be facing a foe they can't defeat.

Much better than the first book
The second book seems better than the first. This was a fun listen. I think the author could have started the series with one event/campaign and build the character backgrounds over multiple books then go onto some fantastical mission.

Great read and an amazing voice portrayal.
This novel continues from the first and can be read by itself however it’s best to read the first one, especially to get more background about Gunny and Gramps relationship, which is great character interaction and caused me to convulse with laughter more than once. And Mr Bray who does the characters voices is amazing. He is able to produce a voice for the Vastalimi, I keep thinking of Vaseline when I hear that word! Oh I did try to reproduce the way he spoke their language. GHAAK, nope can’t do it. Got to hand it to him. I just hope he downed some whisky after that speaking session. I bet it took him a week before he could speak properly. First time I heard him I thought of my cat coughing up a fur ball……truly though the man is talented. This is an excellent read and not to be missed.

Great for this genre
Humor, gunfights, tech, humor, and a great group of characters. Plus RC Brays alien voices. How great they are.

Enjoyed it very much
Good interplay between characters, good story, and read well by narrator. I like the bits of history that get thrown in. And I like the dumb jokes.
