About this listen
A short story collection from New York Times best-selling author Cixin Liu. The title story, "The Wandering Earth", was a blockbuster international film, currently streaming on Netflix.
These 11 stories, including five Chinese Galaxy Award winners, are a blazingly original ode to planet Earth, its pasts, and its futures. Liu's fiction takes the listener to the edge of the universe and the end of time, to meet stranger fates than we could have ever imagined. With a melancholic and keen understanding of human nature, Liu's stories show humanity's attempts to reason, navigate, and above all, survive in a desolate cosmos.

When Chen’s parents are incinerated before his eyes by a blast of ball lightning, he devotes his life to cracking the secret of the mysterious natural phenomenon. His search takes him to stormy mountaintops, an experimental military weapons lab, and an old Soviet science station. The more he learns, the more he comes to realize that ball lightning is just the tip of a new frontier in particle physics. Although Chen’s quest provides a purpose for his life, his reasons for chasing his elusive quarry come into conflict with soldiers and scientists who have motives of their own.

Well worth the listen. As in any collection of short stories,, some I found better than others... But,,
I'd give my highest praise to the author Cixin Liu,
Been a devotee of Sci fi, forever,,, and I can't think when I enjoyed stories, for their sheer inventiveness,, as much as some of these. The author has the most imagination, I can personally recall. Going to look into this authors other works,,

Quite the mixed bag
Sometimes dark, sometimes hopeful
Sometimes realistic, others absurd
Sometimes serious, sometimes tongue in cheek
But each of these short stories explore interesting questions of what makes us human, what is happiness, how to work work together and what is the point of it all.
I don't recommend all stories equally, and maybe not all to all people, but it is an excellent collection.

wow
The story was slow and boring at first, and having just finished the Three Body series, it felt lacking. But listen past the first short story and you'll quickly get sucked into his writing, as his many worlds and storytelling will blow your mind.

Overall it was OK.
You can hear bits and pieces of his 3 previous books sprinkled all over these short stories. Imaginative and from a different perspective. Not all the stories were as engrossing but overall a good listen.
