About this listen
OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
“A roadmap on the journey to truth and authenticity… [The Way of Integrity] is filled with aha moments and practical exercises that can guide us as we seek enlightenment.”–Oprah Winfrey
Bestselling author, life coach, and sociologist Martha Beck explains why “integrity”—needed now more than ever in these tumultuous times—is the key to a meaningful and joyful life
AN OPEN FIELD PUBLICATION FROM MARIA SHRIVER
As Martha Beck says in her book, “Integrity is the cure for psychological suffering. Period.”
In The Way of Integrity, Beck presents a four-stage process that anyone can use to find integrity, and with it, a sense of purpose, emotional healing, and a life free of mental suffering. Much of what plagues us—people pleasing, staying in stale relationships, negative habits—all point to what happens when we are out of touch with what truly makes us feel whole.
Inspired by The Divine Comedy, Beck uses Dante’s classic hero’s journey as a framework to break down the process of attaining personal integrity into small, manageable steps. She shows how to read our internal signals that lead us towards our true path, and to recognize what we actually yearn for versus what our culture sells us.
With techniques tested on hundreds of her clients, Beck brings her expertise as a social scientist, life coach and human being to help readers to uncover what integrity looks like in their own lives. She takes us on a spiritual adventure that not only will change the direction of our lives, but also bring us to a place of genuine happiness.

Story
The Work is simply four questions that, when applied to a specific problem, enable you to see what is troubling you in an entirely different light. As Katie says, "It's not the problem that causes our suffering; it's our thinking about the problem." Contrary to popular belief, trying to let go of a painful thought never works; instead, once we have done The Work, the thought lets go of us. At that point we can truly love what is, just as it is.

The result is an audiobook that allows the timeless insights of the Tao Te Ching to resonate anew for us today, while offering a vivid and illuminating glimpse into the life of someone who lives what Lao-tzu wrote more than 2,500 years ago.

Story
We all want to belong. For executives and managers, to be better leaders—and people—we must create welcoming environments in which ourselves and others feel recognized and have a place. But to do so, we must first face our own need for belonging and how that need is often thwarted. Colonna argues that only through radical self-inquiry can we come home to ourselves and others and, in doing so, create systemic belonging—homes—for everyone.

Story
In these gorgeously written and timely pieces, prizewinning poet and author Gay considers the joy we incite when we care for each other, especially during life’s inevitable hardships. Throughout Inciting Joy, he explores how we can practice recognizing that connection, and also, crucially, how we can expand it. Taking a clear-eyed look at injustice, political polarization, and the destruction of the natural world, Gay shows us how we might resist, how the study of joy might lead us to a wild, unpredictable, transgressive, and unboundaried solidarity. In fact, it just might help us survive.

In her illuminating and highly intelligent new book, Suzanne Eder skillfully explains that we awaken to the deeper truth of who we are by following the lead of our personal, heartfelt desires. In contrast with many spiritual teachings that promote the diminishment of personal desire, What You Want Wants You clearly and boldly asserts that genuine desire is the very impulse of life itself, guiding us unerringly back to one source and to our greatest levels of contribution and fulfillment.

What the critics say
“Martha Beck is always full of insights. This book didn't disappoint! Beck identifies the ways culture works against integrity and touches on Dante's Inferno, includes quizzes, and rethinks suffering.” (Good Morning America)
“The Way of Integrity is about the redemptive power of discovering, speaking and living the truth about who you are.... The book vibrates with magic, intelligence, and love. It brims with humor, spirituality, fascinating science, and even Dante’s Divine Comedy. This radiant book will not only change your life, but perhaps even save it.” (Elizabeth Gilbert, number one New York Times best-selling author of Eat, Pray, Love)
"Martha Beck’s genius is that her writing is equal parts comforting and challenging. A teacher, a mother, a sage, she holds our hand as she leads us back home to ourselves.” (Glennon Doyle, number one New York Times best-selling author of Untamed)

A very important book ….
Martha translates Dante’s work into accessible concepts making the work both understandable and user friendly. I suspect if Dante and Martha lived in the same era, they would be best of friends , confidants , and peers . They are cut out of the same cloth, an indescribable beautiful cloth .
Ends up , we all are:)
No matter where you are currently located in your Awakening journey , this book will give you the orientation to know where you are and, the practical tools to move forward .
Thank you Dante , thank you Martha ,

Gets better with each chapter
At first, I found the story hard to follow and wasn’t really recognizing myself in it. I finally was able to really connect with the author around the last half of the book. I also love Byron Katie and the Work, and the mentions of the author resonated with me deeply. I will definitely give another listen to this book as I now understand the whole concept.
