À propos de cet audio

After the sudden death of her husband, a woman unearths surprising revelations about the man she was married to for seventeen years. A compulsively enjoyable, darkly funny, posthumous love story about loss, grief, and unresolved relationships.

Jessica Waite’s successful, charismatic husband, Sean, is on his way home from a business trip when he collapses in a Houston airport. Having begun the day as a wife, by noon she is a widow and the sole living parent to their nine-year-old son. The day after Sean’s funeral, Jessica receives a box of his personal effects and discovers the secrets her husband had been hiding—including drug abuse, compulsive spending, infidelity, and a massive porn cache.

Jessica hides these revelations from her grief-stricken son while also trying to erase Sean from her own life. She rids their bedroom of his belongings. She grants herself a “divorce.” She conceives a revenge plan to unleash on Christmas Eve. But when things start happening that Jessica can’t explain—like signs from beyond and strange coincidences pointing her in the direction of forgiveness—she is forced to choose: Endure the bitter aftermath of her old life? Or reconsider her views?

Written with dark humor in the vein of Liz Feldman’s series Dead to Me and Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died, The Widow’s Guide to Dead Bastards is a searing and hilarious memoir that asks the question: Does death signify the end of a relationship, or can there be an afterlife epilogue?

That this is a TRUE CANADIAN story!

Well written and very detailed and thorough, perhaps a tad too much in places but overall, very well done. The tenacity and will power and just plain hutzpah that Jessica Waite exhibited is phenomenal and the love of her son is palpable.
I MUST comment on the narrator who in general was very good but when she pronounced the capital of Saskatchewan as “Regeena”, I cringed. And the pronunciation of “toque”…come on, Ms Campbell, I know you’re an award winning American narrator but this is a Canadian book so don’t just research difficult Indigenous names to pronounce correctly (brava, btw) but the two errors I mentioned were egregious.

ReGEENA is a George, not a place in Canada.

Jaw dropping and Heartbreaking. Celebration and Reckoning. A well written telling of a travel through time.
I couldn’t, however, get over the incorrect pronunciations of some specific Canadian words. Regina rhymes with Vagina.
4 stars!

Truly Remarkable! Rich story beautifully written!

Wow - This book is an absolute treasure. The story was fascinating and engaging on it's own (I usually only listen when I do chores, but I found myself looking for more and more to do so I could keep listening). What I didn't expect were the nuggets of insight and gems of wisdom about death, grief, betrayal, the complexity of relationships and depth of love and forgiveness that is possible. I still keep turning ideas over long after finishing. It's a book that makes me wish I were in a book club to really dig in and excavate more. The narration was good (though I wish it were the author herself, especially as a memoir, but Cassandra Campbell does an excellent job of it (though there's a few "Canadian-isms" she didn't quite get - lol). I give it 5 stars for sure - highly recommend!

An absolute must read!!!

An absolute must read!!!
It’s hard to believe this is a memoir. The events in this story are of unimaginable hurt and betrayal. Yet Jessica Waite manages to work through the heart wrenching difficulties gaining strength, courage and confidence. It’s an amazing emotional rollercoaster and one that I will recommend to anyone who struggles to make peace with those who have been disappointed by trusted loved ones or hope to find it in their hearts to forgive the seemingly unforgivable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bold, Brilliant, Binge-worthy

Wow! I loved every word of this honest, raw, profound exploration of love, death, betrayal, and grief. Jessica writes beautifully, weaving wisdom, heartbreak, anger, and humour together. I could not stop listening and the book has stayed in my mind and heart long after.
