About this listen
Woefield Farm is a sprawling thirty acres of scrub land, complete with dilapidated buildings and one half-sheared, lonely sheep named Bertie. It’s “run” - in the loosest possible sense of the word - by Prudence Burns, an energetic, well-intentioned twenty-something New Yorker full of back-to- the-land ideals, but without an iota of related skills or experience. Prudence, who inherited the farm from her uncle, soon discovers that the bank is about to foreclose on Woefield Farm, which means that Prudence has to turn things around, fast. But fear not! She’ll be assisted by Earl, a spry seventy-something, banjo-playing foreman with a distrust of newfangled ideas and a substantial family secret; Seth, the alcoholic, celebrity-blogging boy-next-door, who hasn’t left the house since a scandal with his high-school drama teacher; and Sara Spratt, a highly organized eleven-year-old looking for a home for her prizewinning chickens, including one particularly randy fellow soon to be christened Alec Baldwin.
Full of offbeat charm and characters you won’t soon forget, The Woefield Poultry Collective is a heartwarming novel about learning how to take on a challenge, facing your fears, and finding friendship in the most unlikely of places. With alternating narratives, Susan Juby shows how a team of misfits can find acceptance and success, even with - and sometimes in spite of - their highly unorthodox approach.

Just, dang good
Honestly, this is the first book in a long time that’s genuinely left me feeling peaceful and happy. The characters are interesting, and endearing, and you feel like you are a part of their motley crew. Narration was great to listen too. Highly recommend!

Uplifting
I loved the book and enjoyed the audiobook even more, with a full cast to read each character's part. Everyone overcomes challenges as they work together to run a farm and become a family. It ended abruptly but the story is taken up again in the next book in the series, "The Republic of Dirt."

Addicted to Woefield
Susan Juby's observations of west coast community, characters and culture in this novel are insightful, bitingly witty, yet compassionate. Her humorous storytelling is perfectly rendered by the cast of performers in this first volume about the Woefield Poultry Collective - I only wish the publishers for the second volume, the 'Republic of Dirt', had used the same cast in their audiobook version as well. Nevertheless, I am addicted to Susan Juby's 'voice' in all her tales, whether they were written for juveniles in their 60's like myself, or for 'young' adults.

The Voices Were Bang On
The people who read this audiobook did a really good job of bringing the characters to life.
My only complaint is that I actually used a credit for this book, and the last chapter (85) is out of order of the book; sad.

Hilarious
#Audible1
I listen to Audible audiobooks as I fall asleep at night. This book had me laughing so hard into my pillow trying not to wake up the other members of my household. Several times I would let out loud guffaw with tears streaming down my face. This book will be especially funny to anyone who has spent time in A.A. or Al-Anon rooms or knows anyone in recovery. The character Seth is one of the funniest characters with Earl right behind him making this book the funniest book I have read. Susan Juby has a wicked sense of humour and I can’t wait for more from her.

Fun read but
This was a fun book but it really didn’t have an ending. I was surprised it just fizzled.
