About this listen

The ornate reading room at the Boston Public Library is quiet—until the tranquility is shattered by a woman's terrified scream. Security guards take charge immediately, instructing everyone inside to stay put until the threat is identified and contained. While they wait for the all-clear, four strangers, who'd happened to sit at the same table, pass the time in conversation, and friendships are struck. Each has his or her own reasons for being in the reading room that morning—it just happens that one is a murderer.

Award-winning author Sulari Gentill delivers a sharply thrilling listen with this unexpectedly twisty literary adventure that examines the complicated nature of friendship and reveals that words can be the most treacherous weapons of all.

Oh so good!

I loved this one right from the start!
I loved how she was writing a novel during the story! Great mystery, great characters!
Can’t recommend this one enough!!
And the narrator was amazing, adding to an already amazing story!

Loved the story with lots of twists and turns. I appreciate the author’s imagination and ability to tell multiple stories in a story!

Fun double plot line book

Im a pretty casual reader/listener so note I’m no literary expert.

I found this book entertaining, keeping me guessing and wanting more.

The narrator did a great job and had a wonderful cadence.

I really loved this book.

Book Inception

I loved how it was a book within a book within a book. It was a super interesting concept that I’ve never read before. I loved all of the twists and turns but the ending could have been better.

Great

I wasn’t convinced when I listened to the sample but a friend had recommended this book. Once I started listening to it I was hooked. I loved the storey line and the narration.

Meh

The narrator is great in this book but the story was not as good. The author jokes about all stories being a romance in disguise and that’s pretty much what this is, I wanted a thriller so I wasn’t impressed.

A fun listen that will keep you guessing!

I couldn't put this one down and loved the "story within the story" framework! At first I couldn't differentiate between some of the male and female characters because the narrator's voice didn't change much, but once I got going, I was able to figure it out. I love a good whodunit and this one was uniquely plotted to keep me interested in two stories simultaneously. Great fun!

So great!

Wow this was a really good read! Great for fans of Agatha Christie, and of true mysteries.

Disappointed

This was a confusing listen. It was very difficult trying to follow who the main character was. Was she real or a character in a book, if she was a character who was the writer? The connection to the person in Australia made no sense and the ending in the elevator was just as confusing. I liked the mystery and trying to determine the killer as well as the relationship between the friends but in the end it was deeply disappointing.
