Cassiopea Fletcher pens a story about a leader of a refugee community and part-time agent for a resurgent London-based Pharmaco-conglomerate called "New Texas". 'River Kingston' is a "Mod" - a mutant gifted with super-agility, dense flesh, phenomenal reflexes, and enhanced senses that give her an almost "Spider-Sense"-level of situational awareness - essentially she's 'Wolverine' without the claws and healing factor. She exists in a post-apocalyptic reality where Zombies have killed 90% of the human population on the planet, civilization is struggling to recover, and huge hoards of Zombies still roam - but fledgling survivor enclaves compete with weirdly corporate entities and the remnants of Government for, what, notoriety? Fletcher focuses on drama among characters contemplating feelings of guilt, feelings of loss, and even romantic feelings in a book that drips with gravitas - acting as though this stuff is as consequential as actual history. It's like Fletcher forgot the silliness of her whole superhumans among undead premise and does her very best to take all of the fun out of the ZA Genre to deliver a somber character development piece with "survive-at-all-costs" ethics and messaging about megalomaniacal avarice that we're supposed to care about (again - what "wealth"/"profit" are the greedy bad guys trying to accumulate in a world without an economy?)

As to presentation: reader Bronson Pinchot is a bit monotone on this project for some reason (unfortunately contributing to the far-too-serious atmosphere of the book).. but still delivers his typical outstanding diction/timbre/cadence and phenomenal voice-acting. I rate the quality of this listening product "average" overall.

'The World Over' merits 5/10-stars altogether. If you can get it off of the 'Plus' menu, it's not a complete waste of time.. but spend your Credit on something more entertaining if they ask for one. Fletcher expecting you to care about her plot like your kids' lives depend on it is asking too much.


[Incidentally: Pinchot pretty much seamlessly transitioned from on-screen acting to audiobook reading, didn't he? He has an annoying habit of slurring his 'S's, but the man is good at his job]
