The manga is better

I'm a fan of the manga so wanted to give the light novel a try. The manga is better.

Sometimes a light novel will give more detail than the manga and show you a different side of things. That isn't really the case with this one. While some things are drawn out longer, it doesn't add more depth - instead, it highlights the wish fulfillment aspect of the book.

The translation into English is awkward, with conversations feeling stiff. It's also jarring to have the narrator constantly say 'LV 20' as 'lel vee twenty'. And like so many LitRPG audiobooks, it runs into the problem of repeatedly narrating the stats page. You can just turn off your brain for a minute every time it happens - there's no need to remember the stats.

On the one hand, the light novels go much faster than the manga - you can see what happens years in advance. On the other hand, some light novels are better than others. This one just isn't one of the better ones out there. It's not terrible, but it could be better.
