Publisher's Summary

From Conan O’Brien’s longtime assistant and cohost of his podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, a completely hilarious and irreverent how-to guide for becoming a terrible, yet unfireable employee, spilling her trade secrets for minimizing effort while maximizing the rewards.

Sona Movsesian didn’t wake up one day and decide to become the World’s Worst Assistant. Achieving such greatness is a gradual process—one that starts with long hours and hard work before it eventually descends into sneaking low-dosage edibles into your lunch and napping on your boss’s couch.

With a forward from Conan O’Brien, The World’s Worst Assistant is a mixture of how-tos (like How to Nap at Work and How to Watch TV at Your Desk), tips for becoming untouchable (like memorizing social security and credit card numbers and endearing yourself to friends and family), and incredible personal stories from Sona’s twelve years spent working for Conan that put their adorable closeness and professional dysfunction on display. In this audiobook, Sona will explain her descent from eager, hard-working, ambitious, detail-orientated assistant to self-awarded title-holder for the worst in history.

This book is irresistible fun you’ll want to give to every young professional in your life. For listeners of heartfelt humor like that of Phoebe Robinson and Colin Jost, The World’s Worst Assistant is a chance for fans, viewers, and listeners of Conan’s shows and podcast to fall in love with Sona and Conan all over again.

What the critics say

"[Sona's] narrative offers a refreshing departure from the traditional assistant horror stories of pleasing a tyrant boss.... Brimming with heart and humor, this story of failing upward is a hoot."—Publishers Weekly

Awesome fun listen.

This is a great entertaining book read by the author. She made me laugh out loud a number of times when listening by myself. It’s an entertaining fun book of stories that really capture what I believe to be Sona’s personality.

Incredible

I'm really glad I listened to this one instead of read the physical copy, there is really something extra to be had when a book like this is read by the author. I'm a huge fan of both Sona and Conan, but you really don't need to be to appreciate this book. It was well written, touching, witty and down right hilarious. There really is something to be said about not losing yourself in a job and making sure you are treated respectfully. So many in her field are not. Loved listening to the details of their working and personal relationship, it's very endearing. Highly recommended!

Newest from the Conan O'Brien Extended Universe

This made me love Sona even more, and it surprisingly gave me a lot of sympathy for Conan. I feel re-listening to episodes of the podcast are going to give me a whole new perspective. Would highly recommend for CONAF fans (or COBNAF if you prefer, Conan).

Very funny

I enjoyed this book and found myself wanting to back Conan up on his advice about Sona’s past boyfriends! So glad she ended up with a winner instead of 7/11 guy.

Actually drew stares at the park from laughing out loud!

not great, Too much detail, lost interest

narration poor, comes off a bit whiny. Conan seems very cool and tolerant of a self indulgent millennial.

World’s best friend

I love when people narrate their own memoir. It feels like a friend spending the day with you and letting you in their life. I liked Sona on the podcast before I listened to this audio book but now I love her like a friend. <3

Great book

Very interesting book inside look at behind the scenes of Conan’s show. At times I wish it dove in a little bit deeper, I don’t quite believe that Sona is as bad at her job as she lets on.

Great book, surprisingly insightful

Honestly, I thought this book was going to be all comedy but the author really gave some great insight into work-life balance and the importance of being yourself.

Fun Lighthearted Listen

Don't get this book if you're just looking for Conan stories, since the stories are (rightfully) about Sona, her life, and her take on being Conan's assistant over the years. I found it a very enjoyable listen with some "laugh out loud" moments. It reminds me a lot of Sona's contributions to the "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" podcast, so if you enjoy that you very well may enjoy this book.
