Publisher's Summary

The death of Judd Foxman's father marks the first time that the entire Foxman family - including Judd's mother, brothers, and sister - have been together in years. Conspicuously absent: Judd's wife, Jen, whose 14-month affair with Judd's radio-shock-jock boss has recently become painfully public.

Simultaneously mourning the death of his father and the demise of his marriage, Judd joins the rest of the Foxmans as they reluctantly submit to their patriarch's dying request: to spend the seven days following the funeral together. In the same house. Like a family.

As the week quickly spins out of control, longstanding grudges resurface, secrets are revealed, and old passions reawakened. For Judd, it's a weeklong attempt to make sense of the mess his life has become while trying in vain not to get sucked into the regressive battles of his madly dysfunctional family.

What the critics say

"The affectionate, warts-and-all portrayal of the Foxmans will have fans wishing for a sequel (and clamoring for all things Tropper)." (Amazon.com review)
"Tropper strikes an excellent balance between the family history and its present-day fallout, proving his ability to create touchingly human characters and a deliciously page-turning story." ( Publishers Weekly)

I loved everything about this book.

I picked this book up after rewatching the movie. And I love it. There is one scene that I think is not really addressed properly BUT I think it is realistic to the character. That was what was most impressive to me about this book. It is so real. I might start listening to it again right now.

the movie is better

I watched the movie a couple of years back and really enjoyed it. Always wondered how Boner got his nickname. that is why I bought the book when it was recommended to me on email.

guess Amazon AI is getting better at predicting my preferences lol. (scary shiver)

but listening to this has only made me appreciate the movie even more. the story is that of a dysfunctional family. one occasion when I actually liked the movie better than the book. amazing how a talented cast and director can turn a rather lack luster drama into a hysterical masterpiece.

Great story

Very entertaining! If not a little misogynistic (on brand for the early 2000s. Loved it. Great performance. Can’t wait to wait the movie.

This is Where I Leave you

This ok has many well developed and interesting characters. It gives the reader a look at the Jewish community. It also goes into some toxic relationships in a family. I enjoyed it.
