Ce que les critiques en disent

"It will seduce anyone, Civil War neophyte or fanatic, for its authority and judgments....There is not a bad chapter in this book. This Mighty Scourge is a marvelous read from a master historian. Like all good history, what it makes you want to do is know more." ( Boston Globe)

I learned about James McPherson through the Tides of History podcast. Having listened to his Civil War books 1 and 2, thank you #Audible1, I needed more. If you don’t want to listen to the aforementioned 2 volumes, give This Mighty Scourge a try. I’m not American and felt that I needed to have an understanding of Its history to help make sense of what’s happening today. I am better informed!

Each chapter is essentially a literature review with informed commentary on one aspect or one figure in the Civil War. This is not a comprehensive history - for that, see his much, much longer work Battle Cry of Freedom.

Excellent Addition to Civil War History
