Publisher's Summary

From Blackadder to Call the Midwife, from the Cadbury's Caramel Rabbit to Harry Potter, Miriam Margolyes is the outspoken great aunt (after two sherries) we all wish we had - this is (at last) her extraordinary life story, and it's well worth the wait.

Award-winning actor, creator of a myriad of memorable characters from Lady Whiteadder to Professor Sprout, Miriam Margolyes is a national treasure.

Now, at last, at the age of 80, she has finally decided to tell her extraordinary life story. And it's far richer and stranger than any part she's played.

Find out how being conceived in an air-raid gave her curly hair; what pranks led to her being known as the naughtiest girl Oxford High School ever had; how she ended up posing nude for Augustus John aged 17, being sent to Coventry by Monty Python and the Goodies and swearing on University Challenge (she was the first woman to say f--k on TV). This book is packed with unforgettable stories from why Bob Monkhouse was the best (male) kiss she's ever had to being told off by the queen. With a cast list stretching from Scorsese to Streisand, Leonardo di Caprio to Isaiah Berlin, This Much Is True is as warm and honest, as full of life and surprises, as she is.

What an interesting life she’s lived

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Miriam better. There’s so much intelligence and caring and talent underneath her brash truth on talk shows.

Pure and fascinating

This book was funny and entertaining but also inspiring and educational. Her words on getting along and kindness even when you disagree were words I needed to hear right now in my life. A little bit of free therapy. 🇨🇦

Interesting but long

She's lead an interesting life and wrote without filter, which was fun to listen to. But it felt a bit longer than expected (I'm not a hard core fan though) and some stories felt a bit embellished. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not my cup of tea.

Fascinating

I enjoyed this immensely. Marion is a captivating writer and reader. Much of her story has been told before on various interview shows but she is great to listen to.

Best Autobiography That I Have Ever Read!

I don't always write reviews on my Audible listens, but had to do so this time. Miriam Margolyes is the most honest, forthright, outrageous, funny, intellectual, and true to herself person, that I have had the honour to know through an autobiography. I feel after listening to her story, that I really do know her. There is nothing false or pretentious about her. Her political views are bang on as far as I'm concerned. I wholeheartedly agree with all of what she wrote on politics.
She made laugh out loud many times throughout the book. I was never put off by her swearing or bawdy comments. As a woman of senior years, I delight in the freedom of swearing and I delight in saying what is on mind. It's especially gratifying when I see the shocked looks on my kid's faces when I do so. Miriam does shock some people, but I think secretly those people would love to have the gumption to speak up as she does.
I was sorry when the book ended. I will continue to watch for Miriam in all her new ventures and appearances, especially, The Graham Norton Show, which is the best talk show that has ever been on the air. Those two have amazing chemistry and I'm never disappointed by the entertainment.
Thank you Ms Margoyles for giving me hours of listening pleasure.
