About this listen

New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller! Clashing empires, forbidden romance, and a long-forgotten queen destined to save her people—Tahereh Mafi’s first in an epic, romantic trilogy inspired by Persian mythology.

To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight.

The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. But he could never have imagined that the servant girl with the strange eyes, the girl he can’t put out of his mind, would one day soon uproot his kingdom—and the world.

Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Tomi Adeyemi, and Sabaa Tahir, this is the explosive first book in a new fantasy trilogy from the New York Times bestselling and National Book Award-nominated author Tahereh Mafi.

“In a tale as exquisitely crafted as one of Alizeh’s own garments, Mafi weaves a spell of destiny and danger, forbidden love and courtly intrigue, magic and revolution.”—Cassandra Clare, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Hours

This Woven Kingdom is an exquisite fantasy. Rich with clever prose, delicious twists, and breathtaking world building. Prepare to be destroyed—this one will wrench at your heart and make it pound, and in the end it will leave you entirely speechless.”—Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Caraval series

Not Great

Not the best book. I found some of the narrative annoying. “I beg your pardon” was used far too often. The ending was most unsatisfactory. Parts of the story were very good but it was a very so so story overall.

It good but not great

I enjoyed the story and concept. There was a lot of the characters zoning out and thinking to themselves A-LOT. A little slow moving, picked up towards the end. I will read the next book, i would recommend

looking forward to the next installment

I really enjoyed both the narrator as well as the language used throughout the book. it helps to transform you from what we view as civilizations and what the author has created as a basis for the story. I listen to your book as I drive home from work an hour each day. it is a great way for me to unwind and I am thoroughly immersed in the story that you share. altered just enough throughout to share both character as well as meaning throughout. I am currently looking for books either by the same author or read by the same narrator. the end of the story was quite abrupt and has me eager to read / listen to the next installment of this series. definitely worth the money / credit

Very strange story.

There seemed be too detailed. Confusing at times. I did listen to the end and prepaid for the second book. I will listen to it as well but not sure how I will enjoy it. I wasn’t impressed with the narrator. It could have been a good story if there wasn’t so much detail of very action.

Loved this book. Well written, a touch of Cinderella and ancient Persian mythos. Highly recommend

Fresh and original

I just finished this one and gave it the coveted 5 star review. I LOVED the way the voice actor depicted all of the characters, she did a wonderful job. As for the story itself it was complicated and magical and delicate and I really really loved this one. The main characters were all pretty likeable and I was hooked on the magic systems and solid world building throughout. I am really looking forward to where this goes in the next installment!

Slow and Fairy Tale Esque

A story about class, star-crossed love, princes and djinn, THIS WOVEN KINGDOM will appeal to anyone who is a fan of fairy tales and mythology.

Alizeh is a servant whose days are spent in misery, but it is the only way she can hide her identity as a long lost djinn princess. At least until she crosses paths with Kamran, a prince who will question everything he knows after meeting the mysterious girl.

Alizeh and Kamran are good characters. They are polar opposites and have enough depth to be empathetic. I particularly sympathized with Alizeh, who is just doing her best to survive and grow out of her circumstances. While the dialogue between them is fun, I didn’t really believe the romance because it happened far too quickly. Granted, this could be an aspect of the story as it is inspired by mythology, which almost always has a an insta love romance. That said, I would have liked a few more interactions between the two main characters before they decided they were totally in love with each other.

While the world building is good and the story has great elements of mythology and fairy tales, I did find it to be a little slow for my tastes. The prose itself is excellent and i did enjoy some of the courtly talk, but not much seemed to actually happen. THIS WOVEN KINGDOM spends a great deal of time on Alizeh and Kamran’s day to day life that in the beginning that it felt like the story actually began in the middle.

Basing this review on my reading of fiction and not being aware of the mythology the book is based on, it’s not quite for me. However, I do recommend it to fans of courtly intrigue and politics, romance, and mythology and fairy tales.

Disappointed

I’m sad to say I did not enjoy this book.. I feel as if the story line is a little boring and I couldn’t get in to it. Kinda confused with the characters and dint know what was going on half the time I couldn’t finish it unfortunately…
