Publisher's Summary

Bloomsbury presents Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

Lethal. Loyal. Legendary.

Enter the world of Throne of Glass with the first book in the #1 bestselling series by Sarah J. Maas.

In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King’s Champion.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Thrilling and fierce, Throne of Glass is the first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that has captivated readers worldwide.

Horrid reader

Horrid reader. Not engaging. I'm sorry. I tried very hard to enjoy this, even to listen to it as I feel asleep but it very much felt like the narrator was in no way familiar with the story or characters and the narration falls quite flat.

Cheers for Throne of Glass

Loved it the first time I read it, and have now enjoyed listening to it as well. Love how the books have their own stories within them that arc across the series, and the narrator does fairly well varying the characters. I’m not a huge fan of her specific style as so many of the secondary women just sound like simpering damsels and most of the young men sound pompous, but I know I couldn’t do better, lol. There are so many characters! Lol

The narrator ruins it all

Im sorry but the narrator is very bad. I feel like she never uses the right intonations. I read this book many times and I decided to listen to it and she just doesn’t deliver. I imagine Celeana sassy and funny from the beginning but the narrator makes her sound depressed and flat. I hate how she tries to take a male voice when a male character speaks. I think another reader would be better .

Love the story

I adore this book. The narration leaves much to be desired. I’ve enjoyed her other narrations, she has a great voice, but perhaps reading fantasy was new to her. Many mispronunciations, namely the way way she pronounced Adarlan, I had a hard time enjoying this ‘reread’ because of it. Also her ‘feminine’ voices are irksome.

Good story, terrible narration

I really liked the story and pacing, as well as the characters. However the narration really took me out of it, especially Samhain. A little effort and research goes a long way, and feels a little disrespectful to the very real Celtic holiday.
