But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target, or he'll lose not only his father but the boy he loves - forever.

I was totally captivated by the story. There’s a very cool, understated steampunk vibe to the setting, and the magic system and alternate history it builds are refreshingly unique. It’s a YA novel but deals with some heavy themes and can absolutely be enjoyed by adults.

Narration by Furlong is very good! Can’t wait to listen to the rest of the trilogy.

I thought this was a really strong start to the series - a good mix of steampunk, alternative history, and romance. The characters could use a bit more development, but I'm hopeful that happens over the next books. I would have liked to see more about the protests and the options for time keeping, so I'm hoping that is in the next instalment. But this was honestly such a good, strong first book and I'm mad at myself for not reading it sooner!

This story is gorgeously written and it sucks you into the incredibly detailed and mesmerizing world. The romance between Danny and his lover is poetic and entrancing, and the story moves with a breathless pace. I devoured this book in a single day, and can't wait for the sequel! Highly recommend for fantasy and YA fans!
