About this listen

The Navy SEALs have been fighting terrorists around the world for over a decade. And for all that time, the Bandito Platoon SEALS from SEAL Team Seven have been on continuous combat rotation. Now they have drawn a shipboard assignment off Central America - an easy day.

But for a Navy SEAL, the only easy day was yesterday.

In a powerful story of global anti-terrorism inspired by real life missions, Act of Valor combines stunning combat scenes, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

Act of Valor takes you deep into the secretive world of today’s most elite, highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, team, and their families back home.

But each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border - where they engage in an epic firefight with potentially unimaginable consequences for America…

First Tom Clancy Novel

I thought this was pretty good, I was half expecting something a little stuffy but I enjoyed his writing. Descriptive enough to paint a picture, but not so much as to make it boring.
I wasn't a massive fan of the actual story, like another review mentioned there was a lot of "rah America" and in a written piece it was just too repetitive for my liking. The only reason I kept listening was because of how well it was written.

present and past tense...

I only noticed this in chapter 10... but the author switches from past tense (common in novels) to present tense (awkward) a few times in the book. This is during the story, not some mistaken memory. It is weird and awkward.

Moving

I have enjoyed many of Mr. Clancy ‘s books. This one is no exception. I am seldom as deeply moved by a story as I was with this one. Thank You, to all who contributed and well done.

They Shall Not Grow Weary…

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Very predictable

I found it extremely predictable to the point where I could figure out who was going to get killed almost as soon as the characters were introduced. Also, this TEDIOUS naming of the exact model numbers of weapons, bullets and airplanes (to the point that not even the pilots would care) is completely over the top. I don’t need to know for the 15th time that so and so was carrying a 15mm Sig Sauer or that they were flying on an Apache AH-64D Block III powered by T700-GE-701D turbojet engines.

What a load of .....

Terrible story with way too much technical detail and way to much rah rah America.

It's like listening to a military manual

This reads like a US Navy propaganda book and when you add in the clipped overly enunciated narration style. It's as dry as listening to someone reading an owners manual
