Publisher's Summary

A passionate one-night-stand years ago leads to an unlikely friendship....

Jackson James follows lots of rules. He has to. He’s a sheriff’s deputy. But strict adherence to the law during daylight has been enjoyably balanced by his own rakish regulations at night. Jackson, usually happy to protect and to serve (and serve, and serve), starts questioning his rules when wayward evenings begin to feel more like being waylaid rather than getting laid. The once laissez faire sheriff deputy can’t help but long for something real.

Movie star Raquel Ezra follows only one rule: Always leave them wanting more. Strict adherence to this single rule has served her well. Studio execs, reporters, audiences, fans, lovers - no one can get enough of the bombshell. But when “generous offers” start to feel like excessive demands, years of always leaving has the habitually elusive movie star longing for something lasting.

Seeking an escape, Raquel abruptly returns to the small hamlet of Green Valley, Tennessee, and her path crosses with the delectable deputy she spent one unforgettable night with years ago. However, when scandal and intrigue soon follow, Raquel and Jackson must decide which is more important: maintaining their rules? Or, at long last, finding something real?

loved it.

Penny Reid is talented at bringing characters to life. The baggage people bring into relationships seem realistic with her characters. I got choked up a couple times in this story; Jackson and his father having a heart to heart and when the winston brothers were stepping up to be a good friend. Cielo Camargo has a cute voice. Chris Brinkley is stellar as always. Green Valley is a magical dream land. That is all.

Enjoyed Even More the 2nd Time!

At first, it was hard liking the mal protagonist, considering the way the Winston Brothers perceive him in previous novels but Penny Reid is masterful at character development and when listening the 2nd Time, I caught some nuances that made the book extremely enjoyable. the 2 narrators are perfect. Thank you for your outstanding voice acting performance.

Not the best

I found the parts when Ms Camaro is being Jackson, or any other male character, very off putting. I have enjoyed the series up to now. Not sure I’ll finish this book because Jackson sounds almost like a little boy when read by the female here.
Very sorry as Ms Camaro is good as Raquel. Just don’t like her doing male parts in her chapters.
