About this listen
Evie Blackwell loves her life as an Illinois state police detective...mostly. She's very skilled at investigations and has steadily moved up through the ranks. She would like to find Mr. Right, but she has a hard time imagining how marriage could work, considering the demands of her job.
Gabriel Thane is a lifetime resident of Carin County and now its sheriff, a job he loves. Gabe is committed to upholding the law and cares deeply for the residents he's sworn to protect. He, too, would like to find a lifetime companion, a marriage like his parents have.
When Evie arrives in Carin, Illinois, it's to help launch a new task force dedicated to reexamining unsolved crimes across the state. Spearheading this trial run, Evie will work with the sheriff's department on a couple of its most troubling missing-person cases. As she reexamines old evidence to pull out a few tenuous new leads, she unearths a surprising connection...possibly to a third cold case.
Evie's determined to solve the cases before she leaves Carin County, and Sheriff Thane, along with his family, will be key to those answers.

Loved this book!
Can’t wait to dive into more of this author’s books. The narrator was top notch.
Some good twists and turns in figuring out these cold cases.
Novel had some good wholesome, God fearing characters.
Still suspenseful, without all the blood and gruesomeness in the last author’s book!

I enjoyed the suspense.
A lot of religious talk which I personally am not interested in. The storyline otherwise was good with good character building.

Good story
I enjoyed the story and felt it was well written. It took me a bit of time to adjust to the narrator’s nuances and I think that was personal preference on my part. Overall it was a good story

Keeps you guessing to the end!!!!!!
Love that a faith based Christian has the talents to put the ‘real life’, into a story that keeps you guessing to the end. The icing on the cake Would be to hear more of her audiobooks with a male & female voice. 💝

what
This book had an unforeseen ending that left me wanting to know what happened!!! I loved the story, and how there was more going on, and you got to find out what was happening in old characters lives.

Henderson envelopes me in her worlds!
I am always fascinated by the detailed, rich lives of Dee Henderson’s characters. The investigations are meticulously described and worked by people who care deeply about the outcome. I only wish she had continued beyond the two books in this series. I want so badly to catch up with the family and friends I met in this book.

I tried twice
And I couldn’t get through this. There was a heck of a lot of conversation between two characters discussing the motivation of a third. Oh, woe! Oh, worry! Poor so-and-so!
The biggest issue, though, is the narrator’s gratingly irritating cadence, identical in every phrase. Regardless of character, tone or subject matter, every sentence is delivered exactly the same way.
Too bad. There might have been a story in there somewhere.

Too much religious talk
I had a hard time finishing book, storing line keeps you reading but so much religious talk and philosophy unneeded and irrelevant to story line.

Heads up very religious
Description doesn’t say anything about it being a heavily prayerful, praise the lord, Christian book, would have preferred a heads up. Gave up on chapter 4. Totally fine for those who want to read it, but should have been in the title details.
