Publisher's Summary

Livestreaming now! Trapdoor - Five go in, none come out.

Eva Kavinsky wakes in a dark cellar, with no memory of how she got here. Imprisoned with her, seemingly at random, are four men. The only way out is the trapdoor in the ceiling – and it's locked.

The single clue about what brings them all here is a cryptic message sprayed onto one wall. Connect the dots. Repent. A camera fixed high above reach is livestreaming this whole nightmare to the world. What confessions are they meant to make to their unseen audience?

With only a single lighter between them and the cellar steadily filling with water, Eva races to discover what connects her to the four men. But nobody here is who they claim to be. And in this dark place, secrets and lies are so much easier to tell than the truth that could destroy them all.

Can’t stop listening!

Suspense and anxiety! A good short story with great twists. Well written and good performances. One comment said it was too monotone but I disagree- I felt it was suppose to be more flat as it built the suspense. 5/5

Disappointed with the political bias

I liked this book in general. The narration was excellent. The story was interesting and suspenseful. The main thing I am disappointed with is the political bias of the author. If someone is writing a book political references are fine, however it’s extremely annoying to hear the obvious bias.

Brilliant

This book was great, I couldn’t put it down. The twists, turns, loved the narrators. Just all great book, probably my favorite listen in awhile.

Compelling story

Very unusual storyline. Enjoyed the twists and turns. Justice versus vengeance is always a fine balance

Clever Riff On A Familiar Scenario

To his credit, Aussie author J.P. Pomare references the 'Saw' franchise of films in the text of his story about four individuals kidnapped and trapped in a pitch-dark cellar - their struggles in a slowly flooding chamber livestreamed on the internet. Pomare unapologetically borrows from those "revenge justice" ideas to deliver his take on the posit. The plotting is occasionally ludicrous - with some genuinely silly twists, but the writing is capable (vocabulary/prose, characterization, description), and the pacing is satisfyingly breakneck.

As to presentation: Audible Originals sound engineers offer a flawlessly edited Full Cast performance. The narration is inconsistent (some readers are far better than others).. but each of the five performances is undeniably professional.

In toto, 'Trapdoor' is a fun 7.5/10-star, relatively short distraction. If you can get it off of the 'Plus' menu, do so. It was a great way to spend a quiet afternoon. Should Audible ask for a Credit, however, keep browsing.

Wow to the intricacies!

Was on the edge of my seat all the way through. Captivating, held my intrest from the moment of listening. Storyline starts out fast and ends with an unexpected twist. Loved it aa the narration was perfectly suited. 🥰 💞

Lots packed into shorter story

Really enjoyed the narrators. The story kept my attention - it was well worth the listen.

A well written story

From the start I liked how the plot of the story kept flowing from one character to the next. The blame for whom did some kind of sick perverted injustice to a girl, and how all of characters are intertwined in it. Right up until the end the reader is kept guessing on who the the real master mind is. So what are you waiting for? Narrator was kind of monotoned

Story was ok, but the narrator could have been better. For example, sound sadder during a sad scene, happy or excited during the more excitable scenes.

Great performance

Narrators were awesome and make it worth the listen even if the story is a little weak overall.
