About this listen

The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King's heart.

Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King's rule. Her only desire is to get free and pay him back for every moment of misery she's endured.

When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she'll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.

But Lor doesn't belong in the Sun Queen trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn't a citizen of the Sun King's court. The other tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is wiped off the gameboard—permanently.

Now Lor must win because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she'll be sent back into the hands of the Aurora King.

This glittering fae romance is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer Armentrout, and Raven Kennedy. Trial of the Sun Queen is the first book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series with an eventual happy ever after.

If you’re a fan of Sarah mass you will LOVE THIS!!!!

I loved this- I binged it in three days and I wish it was twice as long! Starting the next book right now😭. If you’re a fan of Sarah mass read this, it’s definitely inspired by ACOTAR and TOG, but in the best way possible with a similar world and similar ideas abt love, survival, magic and adventure. I sped through devouring every page and the epic adventure and chilling suspense. The author does a great job with foreshadowing and leaving hints throughout the book, so I did sort of know what MIGHT happen at the end which added to the suspense. This book wasn’t overly emotional, I never wanted to cry, but the story was so addictive and high stakes that I thought about it all day.
The performance was also well done, narrator wasn’t too dramatic or monotone, striking just the right balance so that you could focus on the story and stay engaged.
Overall, READ THIS!

I had my doubts at the beginning of the book but as it continued I enjoyed it more and more.

Audio Speed

I really enjoyed the story but had to put my speed up to 1.4 because the cadence felt slower than usual. (please note: I am ADHD and usually cut people off if they are slow at getting to their points in any and all conversations 💀)

Narration not so much

The story was good, but I felt misled by the 5 star reviews for the voice actors. The female voice was fine, but the male’s voice was so grating, it was hard to listen. The vocal fry was out of control

Interesting enough story

I listened to this within a few days and the story was pretty good, I did not enjoy the way the narrator voiced the MC. She made her sound whiny and like a brat instead of the emotions I thought should be portrayed. It was really jarring. The rest of the narration was okay, it was just specifically the MC dialogue that is awful.
I also feel like this book didn’t get too in depth with anything other than the trials and I also didn’t really feel the “chemistry” between her and the other characters. I never felt we got to really know the other characters either. I will read the next and to see if I will continue the series.

Predictable but engaging

This book has vibes that combine the Selection, Hunger Games and even Throne of Glass (first book). Lor is a prisoner in the Aurora King’s territory who finds herself swept away to compete in trials to become the next Sun Queen. The trials are dangerous and the competition snarky, and overall the pace is quick and engaging albeit slightly predictable.

What did draw me out of the story was the way Lor’s chapters were written first person and Nadir’s were written in third. I understanding this was an artistic decision to draw attention to Nadir being important while remaining secretive, but for me the style was distracting.

The voice actors were well cast though and I enjoyed listening to them
