Chile Charlie has happily settled in his new in the Rio Grande Valley of Southern New Mexico with the hope to travel, explore, and then adventure into the Land of Enchantment. The happiness fades as he falls into a state of gloom when the surrounding realities of his past began to haunt him.

On the advice of his neighbor, Charlie sets on a journey north to seek help from the priests of the old mission, but he finds himself in the Navajo Nation and a world of crime, mystery, mysticism, and danger that begins when a strange woman knocks on his hotel door, wearing only a sheer nightgown, and asked for his help.

What follows is the unexpected, and discovery of a mysterious black bag containing ancient Native American antiquities—four sacred Kachina masks.

The discovery unexpectedly takes the protagonist on the road into the underworld of robberies, burglary, carjacking, knife fights, and shootings as he becomes entangled in the web of the black market—a path that is certain to lead to Chile Charlie’s demise.

The story is filled with encounters with unusual characters like the mystic Magi Milly, the mysterious Mr. Li, Russell Strongbow, the Zuni Indian who is determined to kill Chile Charlie, and Dolly Sweet Thompson, who teams with Charlie in solve the mystery of the sacred Kachina mask.

This is Book One of the Navajo series: Chile Charlie’s adventures in the Southwestern Native American culture.
